Fox NFL SundayFOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 10/20/13

Johnson to Irsay: You Don’t Trash an Icon
Long: It Was Disappointing that the NFL Fined Marshall for Raising Awareness
Strahan: Jets Are the Only Thing New York Can Hold On To

—————————————————————————-

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on Colts owner Jim Irsay’s comments prior to Peyton Manning’s return to Indianapolis:  “Just because a guy’s got money and owns an NFL team, doesn’t make him smart. You don’t trash an icon. He’s got to regret what he said. There are a lot of teams out there that would love to have a Super Bowl ring and would love to go to the playoffs 11 straight times and build a new stadium and franchise. Does he realize what Peyton Manning did for Indianapolis?! You don’t trash him.”

Analyst Howie Long added: “It’s not just a shot at Peyton and the players who were there with him but it’s also a shot at Tony Dungy and Bill Polian.”

—————————————————————————–

NFL Insider Jay Glazer on the NFL’s invitation to Ndamukong Suh and Lions personnel to meet in New York: “The NFL has extended an invitation to Suh and his head coach Jim Schwartz and their general manager Martin Mayhew to come back out to New York during their bye week so Suh can explain ‘this is why I think I shouldn’t get punished’ and the NFL can explain why they are going after him. What it does is the next time they look to suspend him, the NFL can say ‘we went above and beyond for this guy’.”

—————————————————————————-

Analyst Howie Long on the NFL fine of Brandon Marshall last week: “It was disappointing to me that the league fined Brandon Marshall for wearing the green cleats for trying to bring attention to mental health awareness week. It’s just a disappointment.”

—————————————————————————-

Analyst Michael Strahan on whether the Jets can do anything in the AFC East being 3-3: “Jets are the only thing we are holding on to in New York right now. J-E-T-S – Jets! Jets! Jets!”

—————————————————————————-

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the relationship Patriots QB Tom Brady has with his new receivers: “He has eight touchdown passes and five of them have been to the rookies. The last thing any quarterback needs is the frustration of having to make sure everyone is doing their job but he does it. You have to build a trust with your receivers and it takes time. The communication is the most critical thing.”

—————————————————————————–

Glazer reports on an injury to Eagles starting quarterback Nick Foles that went mostly unnoticed: “Nick Foles had an injury last week that fell completely under the radar. The Eagles listed him as having a groin injury but they had a serious concern. If you remember, late last week, Michael Vick suddenly practiced because they were concerned enough about Foles. Foles got better over Friday, Saturday and Sunday.”

—————————————————————————-

Analyst Jimmy Johnson on what the Falcons should do with Tony Gonzalez: “At best this is an 8-8 team that will not make a Wild Card. I know the NFL is a business but out of respect to Tony, they should sit him down and ask him if he wants to go to a contender. Tony has to make that decision.”

—————————————————————————-

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on whether the Vikings have a chance in the NFC North and the future of general manager Rick Spielman: “Spielman said ‘that’s my man’ with Josh Freeman but he forgot that three years ago he drafted Chris Ponder with the 12th pick in the first round. If this doesn’t work out with Freeman, I think Spielman will be out the door.”

And we’ll finish with NBC’s Football Night in America.
