Let’s do the Sunday NFL pregame show quotage. For NFL Network, it’s the notes and quotes from NFL GameDay First and NFL GameDay Morning, a total of six hours of quotage. That’s a lot.
Here’s the NFL Network press release.

Quick Quotes from NFL GameDay First & NFL GameDay Morning
– “It’s how badly the Giants are playing. I wouldn’t even say surprised – I would say appalled.” – Shaun O’Hara on what is more surprising: how badly the New York Giants are playing, or how well the New York Jets are playing
– “I’ve never seen a quarterback in so much control…He’s just playing the position as comfortably as I’ve ever seen anybody play it.” – Kurt Warner on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning
– “The ’72 Dolphins take notice because this could be an undefeated team.” – Steve Mariucci on the Denver Broncos
– “Something is wrong with the philosophy. It’s not the quarterback because the team I’m seeing on the football field is not the team that they talk about [that] they are or the identity [they want] to be.” – Warren Sapp on the 0-3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers benching quarterback Josh Freeman in favor of rookie Mike Glennon
– “I understand the change, you want to provide a spark but it shouldn’t have been at this time. It’s too early.” – Shaun O’Hara on Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano benching quarterback Josh Freeman in favor of Mike Glennon
– “I believe the problem stems from what Todd Haley wants to do and what Ben [Roethlisberger] does well. They do not mesh.” – Marshall Faulk on the 0-3 Pittsburgh Steelers

Quotes from NFL GameDay First
Every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM ET, NFL Network is first on the field with NFL GameDay First. Host Melissa Stark, co-host/analyst Sterling Sharpe, and analyst Shaun O’Hara provide the first analysis of the day’s games, while NFL Network reporters stationed across the league report from stadiums with the first on-location reports of the day. This week, former Super Bowl-champion wide receiver Antonio Freeman joined as a guest analyst.
– “It’s how badly the Giants are playing. I wouldn’t even say surprised – I would say appalled. I know Tom Coughlin when he walks into the team meeting room the very first time in training camp, he says, ‘Gentlemen, we are going to take care of the football’ and they’re not listening. They have 13 turnovers already this season – we had 13 turnovers in the entire season in 2008 when we went 12-4. They’re not doing a very good job of taking care of the football and I don’t understand it.” – Shaun O’Hara on what is more surprising: how badly the New York Giants are playing, or how well the New York Jets are playing
– “The Pittsburgh Steelers have let three quality wide receivers in their prime out of that building, the latest one being Mike Wallace who is down in Miami. You cannot keep letting talent at that level out of your building and expect someone else to step up and do the same things…They do a great job in the draft but they are going to have to spend some money in free agency to get themselves back to Championship level.” – Sterling Sharpe on the Pittsburgh Steelers
– “Marc Trestman, job [number] one was to keep Jay Cutler upright – they’ve done that. As long as they can protect him, you have to live with some of the bad – he’s a little Brett Favre-ish, he’s going to throw some balls that you are going to be scratching your head about – but he has won two of the last football games with his arm alone.” – Sterling Sharpe on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and head coach Marc Trestman
– “I understand the change, you want to provide a spark but it shouldn’t have been at this time. It’s too early.” – Shaun O’Hara on Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano benching quarterback Josh Freeman in favor of Mike Glennon
– “They imposed their will on this Rams defense. I compliment [offensive coordinator] Greg Roman for getting back to what they do best…They understand that offense goes through Frank Gore and they got back to the basics.” – Shaun O’Hara on the San Francisco 49ers in their 35-11 win over the St. Louis Rams
– “With the speed [of Giovani Bernard], with A.J. Green, Andy Dalton, and what they’re bringing to the table on defense, this juggernaut is going to be hard to slow down.” – Sterling Sharpe on the Cincinnati Bengals
Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning
NFL GameDay Morning is the most comprehensive pregame show on Sunday morning, airing at 9:00 AM ET for four hours on NFL Network and taking viewers straight up to kickoff. Host Rich Eisen joins analysts Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews. Additionally, NFL Media’s national insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Media’s Mike Silver provide the latest inside information from around the league. This week, NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah appeared in-studio.
– “I’ve never seen a quarterback in so much control on the football field…When I watch [him] play, I just feel like everything else is in slow motion; that he sees everything, he knows what everybody is doing, he can spread the ball around, get them in the right situations. He’s just playing the position as comfortably as I’ve ever seen anybody play it.” – Kurt Warner on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning
– “I don’t think the answer is changing the quarterback. It’s the easy move to make; we’re having problems – it has to be all about the quarterback. I don’t think that’s the case in this situation.” – Kurt Warner on if benching Josh Freeman was the right move for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
– “The first thing when you put in a rookie quarterback you can’t expect too much, but what you do expect from any NFL quarterback is for them to make the plays that are there to be made…That’s something that [Josh Freeman] wasn’t doing.” – Kurt Warner on what to expect from Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie quarterback Mike Glennon
– “I just don’t think there is a chance because I don’t see where it’s going to get fixed. I believe the problem stems from what Todd Haley wants to do and what Ben [Roethlisberger] does well. They do not mesh.” – Marshall Faulk on if the Pittsburgh Steelers can turn their season around
– “You have to get Hakeem Nicks going…He makes that offense go.” – Michael Irvin on New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks
– “Russell Wilson adds that dimension that they don’t just beat average teams on the road – they can beat good teams on the road. That’s where they’re going with what they have.” – Marshall Faulk on quarterback Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks
– “He can place the ball wherever he wants to with accuracy and velocity. A lot of quarterbacks, they can’t do that.” – Marshall Faulk on Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck
NFL Media’s National Insider Ian Rapoport & NFL Media’s Mike Silver
On Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano:
an Rapoport: “As this quarterback drama has unfolded for the Bucs, there has been an assumption that Greg Schiano is in a little bit of trouble with his 0-3 record. I’m told that is not the case. High-ranking Bucs sources tell me the ownership is behind Schiano. They knew he would have to clean up some of the mess left by Raheem Morris, they knew it would take some time, even if they didn’t quite know it would be as harsh with Schiano as it has been.”On Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman:
Rapoport: “The Bucs plan on making Josh Freeman inactive for today’s game and the reason is because I’m told by a Bucs source that he missed at least one – maybe more – meetings this week. The reasons at this point are unclear.”Mike Silver: “As far as Josh Freeman, here are some trade scenarios. He has a high cap number so either the Bucs would have to eat some of that money – maybe a team like Green Bay would go after him that is looking for a backup – or a player-for-player trade which is becoming more in vogue in the NFL. It would have to be for a player with a high number, maybe like a Josh Freeman for Mark Sanchez kind of deal.”
On the future of Pittsburgh Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley:
Rapoport: “Based on the people I’m speaking with, Todd Haley faces a crucial game this week with the bye week after this and a chance for the Steelers to reassess things and where their offense is going. Based on the people I’m talking to, it would be surprising if a change was made at offensive coordinator after this week. The problem is no one actually knows because any change at that spot would come from the Rooneys and not from Mike Tomlin. A bigger problem for the Steelers this year is Ben [Roethlisberger] is actually buying in; he is grinning and bearing it, and things still have not improved. I think if you pulled him aside privately, what he would want is a little more no huddle; a chance where he gets to call the plays. [The veterans] have been meeting privately this week to hope their winning ways trickle down.”Silver: “I talked to Todd Haley before he went to London and he is very optimistic. He said Ben came into his office Monday after their previous defeat all down, blaming himself. Todd Haley said you’re not the reason we’re going to lose games – you’re the reason we’re going to win a lot of games together. He’s keeping him very upbeat and he absolutely believes Ben has bought in.”
On New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski:
Rapoport: “Rob Gronkowski is not going to play [against Atlanta] and let me explain why. Patriots people believe he is able to play, they believe Gronk wants to play. I’m told that it is his inner circle – specifically his father – who is keeping him off the field and wanting him to be cautious after he came back last year in the playoffs and then reinjured himself. Here’s something a little crazy: Gronk has even told people he may wait until Week 6 to come back.”On NFL.com the following video clips from NFL GameDay First & NFL GameDay Morning are available for viewing:
