Sometimes, you never know where a private Twitter conversation will take you. In August, Steve Bennett of the great Sports-Casters podcast and I were tossing around our thoughts on where the NFL on Fox announcing crews would be headed in Week 1. So we kicked it around and then thought that this would be a great fantasy game. So Steve and I (actually mostly Steve) have devised this game that will take place each week. The assignments for Fox are usually published Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the day. This is unlike CBS which publishes its assignments three to four weeks in advance.
You will now have an opportunity to guess where Joe Buck/Troy Aikman, Kenny/Moose/Goose and the other teams will go. Sometimes, the assignments will be obvious. In other cases, the announcers may tweet their assignments ahead of time so that will answer will be thrown out. But for those that aren’t as obvious, points will be given for each correct answer. The announcing teams and points for each correct announcing team are listed below.
Joe Buck/Troy Aikman//Pam Oliver — 1 point
Kenny Albert/Daryl Johnston/Tony Siragusa — 2 points
Thom Brennaman/Brian Billick//Laura Okmin — 3 points
Kevin Burkhardt/John Lynch//Erin Andrews — 4 points
Chris Myers/Tim Ryan/Jennifer Hale — 3 points
Dick Stockton/Ronde Barber/Kris Budden — 2 points
Sam Rosen/Heath Evans/Molly McGrath — 1 point
The theory on the points is that Buck/Aikman//Oliver get the best game while Rosen/Heath//McGrath get the worst game and their assignments should be the most obvious.
I’ll post the game for each week here every Sunday and entries can be e-mailed to Guessfoxfootball@gmail.com until Wednesday morning at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT.
For Week 1’s games, Fox’s schedule looks like this:
Sunday, September 8
(FOX NFL SUNDAY Doubleheader)
1:00 PM
Seattle Seahawks at Carolina Panthers
Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions
Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints (Kenny Albert/Daryl Johnston/Tony Siragusa — already tweeted by Kenny .. everyone gets one point for this)
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Jets
4:25 PM
Green Bay Packers at San Francisco 49ers
Arizona Cardinals at St. Louis Rams
Buck/Aikman//Oliver will be assigned to SF, but since it hasn’t been officially announced, you can write them in and you can get a point.
The first place finisher through each quarter of the season will get a mention on the Sports-Casters podcast and get a 100-word guest post on Fang’s Bites. I’ll work on getting some swag for the person who has the most points at the end of the season.
This should be a lot of fun.
