So we have tragedy in the NFL again.
Unfortunately yes. This time, it’s struck the Dallas Cowboys as tackle Josh Brent was arrested on intoxicated manslaughter charges in the death of teammate Jerry Brown, Jr. The Sunday NFL pregame shows are adjusting once again. For the second week in a row, ESPN has canceled Frank Caliendo’s comedic segment that was supposed to air last Sunday. CBS which got a beating for its handling of the Jevon Brown-Kasandra Perkins murder-suicide story has a second chance to get things right on a breaking story.
Well, the games must go on right? In the awkward transition, what are the blackouts for this week?
Yes, the games will be played. No blackouts this week. Buffalo avoided one when a fan bought up the remaining 10,000 tickets to ensure today’s Bills game against the Rams. And due to the 10th anniversary celebration of the Tampa Bay Bucs’ Super Bowl team, today’s game against the Eagles will be seen in the Tampa-St. Petersburg market.
So Gus Johnson’s back on the NFL this week?
Yes he is. Gus and his college football partner, Charles Davis will be on the Atlanta at Carolina game. Kristina Pink joins them on the Fox broadcast. It’s Gus’ first NFL game since Week 4 of last season. Welcome back to the NFL, Gus.
So what are Games of the Week?
Game. Only one this week. It’s the Monday Night Football game between the 11-1 Houston Texas taking on the 9-3 New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium. It’s now rare when you get a great late season matchup on MNF, but ESPN certainly lucked out. And if you follow me on Twitter (@fangsbites), I usually tweet some of the more head-scratching statements that analyst Jon Gruden makes on MNF, like this and this and this.
Anything else?
Not really. Keeping it short and sweet this week.
