Analyst Jimmy Johnson on the Saints’ turnaround and chances of making a playoff run: “After Week 4, I called them a rudderless ship on the road to nowhere. Now they have found a way back on course. New Orleans is great on offense but with this defense, they are going to come up short of the playoffs.”

Analyst Michael Strahan on what’s wrong with the slumping Giants: “They keep talking about Eli’s dead arm and that he isn’t going to throw a ball for a whole week. To me, it’s an accumulation of things, but mainly they ended up going on their bye week a week early” [with their loss against Cincinnati].

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the new opportunity the Cowboys have to take the NFC East: “If the Cowboys lose to Cleveland today, their head coach is definitely going to get fired and the reason is – one playoff game in 16 years. You cannot live in past glory. You have to create it in the present and right now there’s no reason they should lose a game with their schedule.”

NFL Insider Jay Glazer reports on the real reason Falcons defensive end Ray Edwards was cut from the team this week: “It wasn’t because of his play. After their loss last week, there was an incident where Mike Smith asked everyone to come into the locker room for the postgame speech. Ray sat by this locker and ignored Smith three times. Owner Arthur Blank was down there, GM Thomas Dimitroff was there. The Falcons are a tightknit group. If they feel like someone is going to be a problem, doesn’t matter if you are talented or not, we’re going to get you out of there.”
Glazer also detailed some of expensive fines the NFL handed out this week for hits totaling $283,000: “There were 15 fines totaling $283,000 this week on players who either hit a quarterback or hit someone in the head. Some fines you’ve heard about, some you didn’t like – Aldon Smith $15,000, Bart Scott $15,000, Mark Barron $21,000. The league is clearly sending a message.”

Analyst Michael Strahan on the Lions’ disappointing season so far: “The Lions had a lot of expectation coming into the season but their problems started in the off-season with the arrests. It is a mindset to be successful and that includes in the off-season away from the facility. If you aren’t disciplined off the field, you won’t be disciplined on the field. I just hope they figure it out before the talent is depleted.

Analyst Howie Long on how the 49ers are armed in the quarterback position: “Whether it’s Alex Smith or Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers have a great formula to protect the quarterback, whether they are injured or just young and inexperienced – run the football. Kaepernick can’t do some of the things Smith can do because of his inexperience but there are things Kaepernick can do that Smith can, mainly extend drives with his legs.”
