FOX NFL SUNDAY NOTES – 10/14/12

Bradshaw on Rodgers: He Can’t Live Up to Last Season
Long on Sanchez: He Needs a New Zip Code and Fresh Start
Strahan Asks Eli to Weigh-In on Jets QB Controversy
Glazer Reports NFL Investigating How Redskins Handled RG3 Concussion

Analyst Howie Long on the on the importance of Michael Vick improving his play and decision making: “In Philly, it’s all about ball security for Michael Vick particularly in the red zone. They’ve won three games by a total of four points and last week they lost by two. As bizarre as it sounds, Michael Vick is playing for his career in Philadelphia. Given the way his contract is structured, if he doesn’t play well and get this in check, he could be out of a job in Philadelphia next year.”

————————————————————————————————

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the perception that Aaron Rodgers is struggling this season: “Everyone wants to know what’s wrong with Aaron Rodgers. You know what’s wrong, he’s too doggone good. He’s being measured by what he did last year. He led the Packers to a 15-1 record and people are saying ‘you have to do that again.’ He doesn’t have a running game, his No. 1 wide receiver Greg Jennings is out and Jermichael Finley is saying he needs to have a better relationship with his quarterback. There’s nothing wrong with Aaron.”

————————————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan on the season ending injury that Texans linebacker Brian Cushing suffered last week and the perceived double standard the NFL has for offensive and defensive safety: “The league cares about all players, as long as you play on offense.”
Analyst Jimmy Johnson added:
“Live with it. Quarterbacks are more important than defensive players.”
Analyst Howie Long offered a deterrent: “If you want to eliminate plays like that, tie the fine/suspension directly to the amount of time the hurt player misses.”

————————————————————————————————

Analyst Howie Long on the New York Jets quarterback controversy: “Mark Sanchez needs tomove on to a new zip code as soon as possible. He needs a fresh start.”
Analyst Jimmy Johnson had a suggestion:
“You are exactly right, how about the Saskatchewan Roughriders.”
Co-host Terry Bradshaw summed the Jets situation: “That’s a bad football team with no talent around Sanchez. You want to bring Tebow in? That wouldn’t be a bad idea. Go to the wing-t while you are at it.”

————————————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan on Robert Griffin III starting today after suffering a concussion last week: “I don’t see the point. You have a serious concussion, you’re young. He’s the future. Why rush him back? I understand the fact that he wants to play, but that’s when a coach has to be the voice of reason. What is the point right now? The Redskins are not going to the playoffs.”

————————————————————————————————

NFL Insider Jay Glazer reported on the NFL’s investigation of how the Redskins handled communicating the RG3 concussion: “The Redskins are facing a hefty fine for the way they handled RG3’s concussion, possibly $25,000 or more for everyone saying ‘he’s just shaken up.’ The problem is when the team doesn’t come out right away and say it’s a head injury, or concussion like symptoms, it allows a team to put a guy with a head injury back on the field. The NFL is trying to close up that language and protect guys like RG3.”

————————————————————————————————

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the caliber of quarterback in the NFC West: “The NFC West has the weakest set of quarterbacks. Sam Bradford doesn’t have enough talent around him. Alex Smith is only one game over .500 as a starter but he’s the class of the NFC West. Now that he can run the football, he’s taken his game up.”

————————————————————————————————

Analyst Michael Strahan visited with former teammate and Giants quarterback Eli Manning as he prepares for a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game against the 49ers:

Manning: “What I’ve found out about being in NY is if you are making headlines, it’s usually a distraction. It’s not because you are winning games. It’s about who is your starting quarterback this week.  That’s what the papers want.”
Strahan:
“I don’t want any headlines from you but who should start – Tebow or Sanchez?”
Manning:
“I don’t know, whoever they want”

————————————————————————————————

Co-host Terry Bradshaw on the mindset of the 49ers as they face the Giants: “There’s nothing greater than revenge. If I was going to fight Howie, there’s no way I can beat Howie, especially at his house but if he comes over to my house, I’d still lose but I’d feel a little more confident.”

And we’ll finish the quotage with Football Night in America.
