With the NFL on Fox feature game in San Francisco and Game 1 of the National League Championship Series also in the City by the Bay, Joe Buck will pull a rare announcing double on Sunday.
Buck will call the New York Giants at San Francisco 49ers game at Candlestick Park at 4:25 p.m. ET/1:25 PT and then head to AT&T Park to call Game 1 of the National League Championship Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the San Francisco Giants. So not only is this a Football/Baseball doubleheader for Buck, it’s also a Giants doubleheader.
Fox Sports PR man Dan Bell tweeted the news this evening.

This had been discussed when San Francisco Giants got into the MLB Postseason. However, it seemed like the issue was going to be moot as the Washington Nationals took an early 6-0 lead in Game 5 of its National League Division Series against the Cards and it appeared the NLCS would start in DC, but as the Cards chipped away and then came back to earn a shocking 9-7 victory, the possibility of Buck calling both games in the Bay Area became more of a reality and then was confirmed tonight.
There have been doubles pulled by announcers before as ABC’s Keith Jackson did it for the ALCS and NLCS in 1978 and 1980, respectively, although they were not in the same city as Classic Sports TV and Media points out.
As Neil Best of Newsday points out, if Buck is late getting to NLCS Game 1 from Giants-49ers, Tim McCarver will start the contest calling it solo until Joe arrives at AT&T Park.

Now that’s going to be quite interesting.
UPDATE, 10:10 p.m.: Just heard from Dan Bell from Fox. He tells me that Buck will ride a cable car from Candlestick to AT&T Park. I have a feeling there will be a lot of people on board riding with Buck to the NLCS.
