Some Friday Evening Links

Some quick links for you. I just DVR’d the replay of first half hour of the Mike & the Mad Dog show from YES. If I can work it out, I’ll try to put up the video here, if not, I’ll search YouTube and make the Chris Russo goodbye as the Video of the Week. Keep your RSS feeds updated.

In the meantime, let’s do some links. Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated goes over what we’ll see on NBC’s Olympics primetime coverage tonight.

Michael Learmonth of Silicon Valley Insider is not happy that NBC won’t budge on giving West Coast residents a live Olympics.

Eric Swanson of Sports Business Daily has some reviews from sports media experts on NBC’s first week of Olympics coverage.

Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News says NBC’s strategy of showcasing certain sports in primetime while shoveling the other Olympic sports to cable is paying off.

Add Kevin Cooney of the Bucks County (PA) Courier Times to those who feel Bela Karolyi commenting on gymnastics on NBC is a walking, talking conflict of interest.

Paul Farhi of the Washington Post is enjoying the Olympics in HD.

Rick Kushman of the Sacramento Bee has some thoughts on NBC’s coverage.

June Shih of Slate.com says if you think NBC’s coverage of the Olympics is over the top, then try watching CCTV in Communist China.

Roger Catlin of the Hartford Courant is sad to see the end of Mike & the Mad Dog on WFAN.

I saw a quick blurb on this over at Awful Announcing today, but I did not have time to get into it in the megalinks. I’ll link to it now. Barry Janoff of Adweek says MC Hammer will be starring in new ESPN promos for Monday Night Football.

Eric Thomas of the Carlisle (PA) Sentinel talks with Big Ten Network president Mark Silverman about today’s debut of BTN on Comcast.

Shamila Janakiraman of TMC.net writes that Verizon Fios customers will get to see an enhanced NFL Network experience for exhibition and regular season games.

Kyle Stack of Newsday writes that NFL Films is still relevant in this day and age.

I’ll have more later.
