DESPITE BLOWOUT, VIKINGS-BEARS ON “SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL” POWERS NBC TO ANOTHER SUNDAY NIGHT WIN
SNF is No. 1 Broadcast of Sunday Night For 6th Straight Week
NEW YORK – October 17, 2011 – For the sixth consecutive week Sunday Night Football was the No. 1 broadcast on Sunday night, according to overnight data released today by The Nielsen Company.
Last night’s game on NBC, in which the Bears dominated the Vikings scoring a 39-10 blowout victory, registered an 11.2 overnight rating and a 17 share, which is down from last year’s Week 6 game, which registered a 13.2/20 in a matchup of two teams with winning records with the Colts defeating the Redskins, 27-24.
NBC NO. 1 ON SUNDAY NIGHT: Last night’s Sunday Night Football broadcast won the night while facing original network programs and competition from the series-clinching NLCS Game 6 on TBS. NBC led the night among metered markets in primetime (7-11 p.m. ET) with an 8.9/14, topping the 8.6/13 for second-place Fox (7-10 p.m.), which was aided by an overrun of the close game between the Cowboys and Patriots. NBC also beat CBS by 25 percent (7.1/11) and ABC by 85 percent (4.8/7).
When the viewership is available tomorrow from Nielsen, Sunday Night Football is expected to be the most-watched Sunday night show for the sixth consecutive week, and when including the NFL Kickoff Thursday Night opener, primetime NFL games on NBC have defeated their competition each time this season. This continues a trend for SNF dominating Sunday nights. Last season, Sunday Night Football was the No. 1 show all 18 nights (100 percent) vs. its competition (16 Sundays, one Tuesday and one Thursday).
