Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News tells us that ESPN Classic will celebrate what would have been the 25 anniversary of the United States Football League this Thursday with a 7 hour marathon.

Bruce Allen of Sports Media Watch breaks the news that Michael Holley will stay at WEEI in the midday spot with Dale Arnold.

Mike Malone of Broadcasting & Cable writes that Wisconsin TV stations went all out in their coverage of Brett Favre’s retirement.

Ted Hearn of Multichannel News reports that in his testimony before Congress on Wednesday, NFL Commish Roger Goodell said the league is considering filing a complaint with the FCC over non-carriage for the NFL Network by the major cable providers.

The Sports Media Watch says NBA Commish David Stern lashed out at ESPN in an interview with The Oregonian.

A couple of things from Laura Nachman’s Phiadelphia TV and radio blog. First, she reports that former pitcher Mitch “Wild Thing” Williams a one hour talk show before Phillies games on WPHT. And Comcast SportsNet has hired a new sports anchor.

W. Scott Bailey of the San Antonio Business Journal reports that FSN Southwest will debut a new show devoted to the Spurs before their game against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday.

Chris Casacchia of the Phoenix Business Journal tells us that FSN Arizona will air 150 Diamondback games this season with Fox taking 6 more for regional broadcasts for its MLB Game of the Week.

Two press releases from NBC Sports. The network previews its weekend coverage of the PODS Championship as the PGA Tour continues its Florida swing. And we get some quotes from NBC NHL analysts Pierre McGuire and Ed Olcyzk on this Sunday’s Pittsburgh-Washington game.

Robert Bell of the Greensboro (NC) News-Record writes that a local TV sports anchor is retiring after after 21 years in the market.

And from the Eye on Sports Media blog, Christopher Byrne talks with WBNG-TV anchor Brendan O’Donnelly about his sarcastic blog post about ESPN badgering his station for tape of Cornell University clinching a spot in the NCAA Tournament.
