A Creative Way to Market the Baseball World Cup

Even though baseball won’t be in the next two Summer Olympics, the sport continues its attempt to show that its a world game. Coming in September will be the 2009 Baseball World Cup to be played in Nettuno, Italy. To attract interest, the organizers decided to film a D-Day-type invasion promo showing baseball players storming a beach.

The interesting part is that the promo was filmed at Anzio, the location of one of the biggest battles in World War II and is home to the largest American military cemetery in Europe. Take a gander. It definitely catches your eye.

The 2009 Baseball World Cup takes place September 22-27. I hope it will be as exciting as the promo.
