The Amazing Asia 2 – Episode 3 Recap

Nine teams remain after Edwin & Monica were eliminated in Manila last week.

We begin at Paco Park & Cemetery which was the pit stop for the last leg of the race. Rovilson & Marc who were first to arrive at 2:42 p.m. will be the first to depart at 2:42 a.m. Teams will receive $162 for this leg of the race. The best buddies find that they will fly to Hong Kong where they will go to the Central Pier and find their next clue.

These first-class jerks who love to mug for the camera find a taxi and head for the International Airport to look for flights to Hong Kong. Rovilson admits he and Marc have a target on their
backs because of their physical condition, but he also admits they lack in race savvy and smarts. At least he knows their limitations, but thus far, they’ve been able to blow through the tasks and finish in the Top 2 in the last first two legs.

The next two teams to leave are Paula & Natasha and Ann & Diane, two minutes apart. These two teams have been fun to watch. While Paula is a TV host, she does not mug. Ann & Diane are moms so they’re as close to real people as we’re going to get on this race.

In their second post confessional, Natasha says it’s best to do the race with your best friend and that’s absolutely true. As we have seen, either a family member or best friend is best to team with in The Amazing Race. The race has been tough on couples in relationship as we have seen with Edwin & Monica in this race or Jennifer & Nathan in US TAR12.

The next two teams to depart are sisters Vanessa & Pamela and gym buddies Adrian & Collin.

Rovilson & Marc quickly get to the airport and ask for plane tickets to Hong Kong. And right on their tails are Paula & Natasha who ask to get the same tickets as the guys and want to sit next to them as Paula says, “..because I smell pretty.” Such a flirt that Paula. And as we see, the first five teams quickly get bunched at the airport.

The sixth team to leave the pit stop are Brett & Kinar. We really haven’t seen much of this team as we have focused more on Rovilson & Marc, Terri & Henry, Paula & Natasha, the dancing moms, Vanessa & Pamela and Edwin & Monica. But with one less team, perhaps we’ll see more of them this week.

Sophie & Aurelia get to go back to Hong Kong where they were roommates and Aurelia’s excited. Sophie says, “We’re going to be first.” Some foreshadowing perhaps.

The last two teams to leave are Daichi & Sawaka and Terri & Henry. Both teams hope to get out of 8th and 9th places respectively as that is where they have finished the first two legs.

Eventually, they catch up with the other teams at the airport, and for some reason, it’s not really explained, Terri & Henry get into an argument. I mean, they really argue and in front of everyone at their departure gate. Terri eventually sits down with Brett & Kinar, but Henry is in tears. Brett says at this point, we’re starting to see sides of teams that he never thought were there. Henry says he comes from a yelling family and to him, that’s the worst thing in the world.

So all nine teams are on the same flight from Manila to Hong Kong, a journey of 1,117 kilometers.

Brett & Kinar do the smart thing and grab a cab for the pier. Paula & Natasha are taking the train from the airport to the pier as are several other teams. This is probably cheaper and will save some money in the long run, but Brett & Kinar get to the pier first and are able to get their clue before any of the other teams.

They find out that teams have to make their way to the Standard Chartered Bank in Hong Kong and count some local currency. Once they give the teller the correct amount, they’ll receive their next clue.

Quickly, the other teams find the clue box and start making their way en masse to the bank. Adrian says it’s truly amazing to see how positions change so quickly in the race and it’s so true. After seeing the teams basically stay in the same position with the exception of one or two, every team for the most part stayed in the same place for the first two legs. But in t
his leg, we finally see some jostling of the teams.

Bringing up the rear are Sophie & Aurelia who don’t find the clue box right away and this really begins a nightmarish leg for this team, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. They finally reach the box and realize that they’re the last ones heading for the bank.

Counting will not be so easy. There are a lot of bills and a lot of coins so teams with a mathematical acumen should be able to finish quickly.

Teams used different systems. All stacked the coins into piles to be counted. As we found, none of the teams were able to get the correct amount on their first try. And all teams were there for at least two hours, trying to count the money and get the right total so they could get their next clue.

Daichi & Sawaka were the first team to get count the money correctly and they found out that their stay in Hong Kong was going to be rather short as they were to fly to Auckland, New Zealand and look for a marked car in the airport parking lot where they would find their next clue.

Just like last season when the trip to Singapore was short to wash a car at a Caltex Car Wash, this trip to Hong Kong was more to wash the hands of a sponsor rather than make this a full leg.

Paula & Natasha said they counted at least ten times and they still did not get it right. This challenge was not up Rovilson & Marc’s alley as they could not get the count right either. And Rovilson mugged for the camera saying he never wanted to count money again. But eventually, he and Marc did get it right and were the second team to leave the bank. They acted like they were in a library as they hugged each other, but didn’t yell or scream. Perhaps all teams were told to be quiet in this area, but most of the teams did not yell out loud at the bank.

As you can see, the amount that Vanessa & Pam had to count was quite high so it was key to be able to add everything up to the exact cent. And their total of $135,023.70 was correct so they were able to leave the bank in 3rd place.

Ann & Diane were next to leave as they were able to get their next clue. And married couple, Terri & Henry got their count verified and were able to leave for the airport. As they were reading their clue, Paula & Natasha screamed as they were told their amount was correct.

Brett & Kinar were the next team to be able to go and if the leg had stayed in Hong Kong, they might have been able to breeze through as this part went well for them. As we’ll see, New Zealand was where things went south for Brett & Kinar.

Aurelia was funny as she brought her board to the teller and said, “This is the correct number, isn’t it,” and indeed it was. This left Adrian & Collin as the last team in the bank. But they eventually got the right amount and were able to get their next clue.

So as a result, all nine teams were able to get on the same flight to Auckland without a problem. This was a journey of 9,139 km.

Teams for the most part were able to find the marked cars once they got out of Auckland International Airport and they were instructed to drive to Howick Historical Village. A tourist attraction featuring 30 historical buildings, the village allows visitors to experience what life was like for the early settlers of New Zealand. Once at the village, teams will find their next clue.

Rovilson & Marc were able to find a local who helped them, no, led them to the village. Marc says without help, it would “be hell to find otherwise.” As a matter of fact, as he arrived at the village, Marc said, “I’m feeling sorry for the other teams right now if they don’t have someone to lead them there.” He would actually be correct as other teams struggled to find the exact location of the village.

Thanks to the local, Rovilson & Marc were able to reach the village. They discovered they were to take three pictures with a (dreaded product placement ahead) Sony Cybershot camera, one of a gravestone (Mary Syms), the other a painting (Robert McClain) and the third, a Poke for a Pig, then show the pictures to a person waiting at the Howick Court House who will hand them their next clue. They quickly found Robert McClain and took the picture of his painting.

Ann & Diane were the next to arrive at the village and started snapping. Following them were Adrian & Collin. However, Sophie & Aurelia were struggling to find the village as were sisters Vanessa & Pamela. Brett & Kinar brought up the rear.

But Paula & Natasha found the village and were next to get their Cybershot. Right behind them were Sophie & Aurelia. Once Adrian & Collin, Paula & Natasha and Sophie & Aurelia got their bearings, they smartly went into a village restaurant and asked locals what their clues meant.

Terri & Henry were the 6th to arrive at the village. However, the sibling teams of Vanessa & Pamela and Daichi & Sawaka were still having trouble finding their destination and Brett & Kinar were woefully behind.

Rovilson & Marc tried to portray themselves as hopefully lost in the village, but Paula & Natasha saw through that and called them losers. Finally, Vanessa & Pamela found Howick and began to look for the places to snap their pictures. It was here where teams began to exchange information and locations so they could find the three places to snap their pictures to get out of the village.

The alpha males were the first to get all three pictures and were able to get their next clue. And they found their next task was a Roadblock, “Who wants to take a plunge?” Basically, teams were to take a leap of faith, a bungy jump off the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

It would be a jump of 40 meters. After the jump was completed, teams would receive their next clue. Rovilson took it, but as Marc told us in his confessional, he had been wanting to bungy jump in New Zealand for so long. He’ll have to wait for a while longer.

Back at the village, Aurelia was bargaining for information with the moms and she got the location for Robert McClain. Finally, Daichi & Sawaka arrived at the village in 8th. Aurelia bargained with Paula & Natasha for another location while Terri & Henry bargained with Adrian & Collin. The dancing moms, Ann & Diane were the second team to receive their clues after being informed that their evidence was correct. And Ann volunteered Diane to take the bungy jump.

Paula & Natasha and Sophie & Aurelia were able to finish the task in 3rd and 4th, respectively. Then as she read the next clue, Natasha agreed to take the plunge, but was apprehensive thinking it was a plunge into the water, but she found out it was a bungy jump, she let out a scream and jumped for joy. Apparently Natasha had been wanting to bungy for a while and was so eager to do it, she ran off to the car before Paula was finished reading the clue.

Sophie decided she would do it for her team and that was that.

Terri & Henry were the next team to finish shooting. Before Henry could finish, “Who wants to take the plunge,” Terri volunteered thinking it had to do with water and once you speak up, you can’t change the person performing the task.

Adrian & Collin finished next and Adrian decided he would bungy. Vanessa & Pamela were 2/3rd of the way done, and Daichi & Sawaka had taken one picture of the three needed.

Ann & Diane were searching for the bridge and were asking for directions.

Then the two sibling teams hooked up and shared information to get their next pictures.

Brett & Kinar were in trouble having not reached the village and were asking directions from locals. They eventually arrived, but not before Vanessa & Pam finished taking their pictures and getting their clue. Daichi & Sawaka were now 2/3’s done.

Then in their car, Terri realized what the Roadblock entailed and could not believe she was stuck with the task. She yelled at Henry that he was supposed to do it and he yelled back, “God damned right I’m supposed to do it, but now you gotta do it! So just do it!” She yelled back, “NO!” But it was too late. Henry told her to suck it up and he would do the next one unless it had to with water.

However, Natasha couldn’t be happier to be taking the jump and was as giddy as a little girl who just got a pony.

Back at the village, Brett & Kinar found it abandoned as they were looking for the three places to take their pictures.

Ann & Diane got lost going to bridge and said they lost a lot of time.

Daichi & Sawaka finally finished their picture taking and got their clue. Sawaka volunteered to take the leap of faith.

Rovilson & Marc then found the bungy jump headquarters at the Auckland Bridge and were to set to go. Sophie & Aurelia were also having trouble finding the bridge and they had to get out of their car to ask for directions.

Paula & Natasha and Terri & Henry were able to vault over the dancing moms and arrive at the bungy jump location next. While Natasha ran to get hooked up, Terri couldn’t have walked slower and said she didn’t like bungy at all.

Over to the village, Brett & Kinar were having trouble finding the Poke in the Pig and inexplicably, Brett said in the confessional that they had completed two laps of the village when he decided to slow down and enjoy the visit? RAAAAAAAAACE. Come on, ask someone to find it, don’t slow down. You’re last.

The teams tha
t were completely lost, Ann & Diane and Sophie & Aurelia finally found locals to lead them to the bridge. In the meantime, Rovilson was climbing to the jump location while Marc was jealous that he could not do the task. Vanessa & Pamela and Adrian & Collin were the next to arrive. Then Terri went up to the jump while Natasha skipped all the way there, happy to jump.

Rovilson said New Zealand was the place to go where one could kill oneself in interesting fashion and what better way to do it at the Auckland Harbour Bridge. And then he jumped off never to be seen again. No, that’s my wish. Rovilson did the jump successfully and he got their next clue. And Marc said he hoped to see them again soon. He was really jealous that he didn’t get to take the jump.

Meanwhile, Brett & Kinar finally found the Poke in a Pig and believe it or not, it was only their first picture out of three. They still had a ways to go before completing this task.

Vanessa & Pamela were walking up to the jump point while Sophie & Aurelia made it to the bridge, thanking their locals for leading the way. Natasha was surprised Terri was doing the jump and she and Paula both gave her a hug for support.

At the base of the bridge, Rovilson & Marc opened their clue and found a Detour, Wall or Waka.

In Wall, teams had to drive to the Birkenhead Leisure Center, go inside and scale a climbing wall. Once both team members successfully scale the wall and grab a flag on top of the wall, one member then has to climb back up to get their next clue.

In Waka, teams had to drive to Auckland’s Lake Pupuke and selected a marked outrigger canoe. Both team members must paddle a course, pick up three flags and return to the start for their next clue.

Rovilson & Marc naturally chose the climbing wall.

Back at the bridge, Paula gave Natasha a hug and then, Natasha jumped and gave a very loud shriek all the way to the bottom. But it wasn’t a shriek of fear, it was one of those shrieks of joy. But no matter, it was still very loud. I turned the volume on my computer to “1” and it cut through my speakers, that’s how loud it was.

Sophie & Aurelia clocked in at 6th at the jump and Ann & Diane were close behind in 7th.

It was then Terri’s turn to jump and she was very scared, but her scream as she lept was not as loud as Natasha’s and when she was finished, Terri was very proud of herself for overcoming a fear. Her smile went from ear to ear as it should have. You go, girl!

Paula & Natasha opened their next clue and chose Wall. And as they were driving out of the parking lot to head to the Birkenhead Leisure Center, Daichi & Sawaka were arriving to jump 8th out of the block. Then Henry decided that he and Terri would climb the wall. Vanessa was next to jump and she was a bit scared, screaming all the way down.

Rovilson & Marc were the first to the Climb, naturally. Brett & Kinar had only taken their second picture and were falling farther and farther behind. Adrian then jumped next and Vanessa commented it was funny to hear a guy scream.

Marc was the first to climb the wall while Rovilson maintained the tension on his rope. He seemed to be doing this rather flawlessly. Vanessa & Pam decided they would go up and climb and we’ll notice later that some of these teams chose incorrectly. Marc eventually got to the top of the wall and repelled to the bottom.

Adrian & Collin decided to climb and the gym buddies made the right choice. Rovilson is able to get to the top of the climbing wall without too many problems and repels down.

Brett & Kinar can’t find the third location at the village and are considering just handing the camera in, but they continue to trudge on.

At the climbing wall, Rovilson goes back up to get the clue. And again, without any problems, he’s able to grab it and heads back down.

After ripping open the clue, the guys find out they’re to drive from the Leisure Center and head towards the family-run Ascension Vineyard on the Matakana coast outside of Auckland where they will find their next clue.

As the guys leave the wall climbing, Paula & Natasha make it in. Then, over to the bridge where Sophie jumps off easily and you can tell she enjoyed doing this task. They were the next to receive their clue, then Diane from the Dancing Moms jumped off and she swan dove rather gracefully. So they were the next to get their clue at the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Over at the Leisure Center, Paula began to climb up the wall. And she did it rather easily, becoming the first to get the flag for her team.

At the base of the bridge, Sophie & Aurelia and Ann & Diane were both considering their Detour options. Aurelia felt she could do the climb even though Sophie felt she couldn’t. Aurelia insisted that she could although you can see the skepticism in Sophie’s face, however, despite this, they went to the Wall. Dancing Moms Ann & Diane also went for the climbing detour. As we would see, this would be the wrong choices for both teams.

At the climb, Natasha was now having problems getting over the midway point of the wall. And Terri &am
p; Henry had just arrived to the Leisure Center and they would go up the wall.

Sawaka then did the bungy jump and she did it gracefully as well. Something about Diane and Sawaka making a beautiful dive off the jump point. Then we saw Brett finally finding the gravestone for Mary Syms and taking the final picture. At this point, they were way behind the other teams and as we would see, their leg would only get worse from here. You’re thinking, it can’t get any worse, but indeed it does. But we continue. They get their next clue and Brett decides that he would take the bungy jump.

Over to Rovilson on the way to the Vineyard and he’s mugging for the camera again, eating some snack. Just eat, don’t mug. I can’t stand this team. Oh, how I hope these guys hit a tree. Yes, I know that’s mean, but this team is just not doing it for me.

Sawaka gets her clue next at the bridge. However, Natasha who had no problems doing the bungy, is now having problems scaling the wall. She can only go so far before slipping off. She’s crying and we’ll see more of the teams with problems at the wall later on. You can see the contrast of her earlier when she was happy to do the bungy compared to her situation at the wall. A tale of two tasks most certainly.

She tries again and can’t go up. Later, Natasha admits that she’s not scared of big heights, she’s scared of smaller heights and that’s causing her the problems going up the wall.

Brett & Kinar feel, no, they know they’re the last team heading towards the bridge. At the last second, Ann & Diane decide to change and correctly go for the canoes. Daichi decides that he and Sawaka should do the boats and again, this is the right choice. Meanwhile, Sophie is doubting the choice to climb. She knows she can do it, but she’s wondering if Aurelia can. While Aurelia said she did it once before, Sophie feels once is not enough. In this case, Sophie is correct, but this is the beginning of a meltdown for her.

Vanessa & Pam are the 4th team to arrive at the Leisure Center, and they see Natasha struggle to get over the halfway point while Henry is scaling it without a problem. Natasha slips off, then just before Henry is about to grab the flag, he makes a misstep and goes all the way down. Natasha and Paula then decide to head for Lake Papuke and do the boats. Good move.

Henry allows Terri to climb, but he doesn’t think she can do it. And after one try and falling off, she says, “Let’s go,” and they head for the boats as well. Then Pamela tries to do the climb, but she doesn’t do it correctly and she has to come down. And just like Terri & Henry, one time is enough, they head for the Lake.

Adrian & Collin arrive at the Leisure Center and they’re the next to go. They’ll have an easier time than the last three teams. In their car, Terri & Henry are arguing as to who chose the wall. Terri said she wanted the rowing. It doesn’t matter at this point. Meanwhile, Adrian has finished his portion of the climb and has grabbed the flag. Collin is next and he’s able to get the flag easily as well. Anything physical, the gym buddies are able to do without too many problems.

Best friends, Paula & Natasha arrive at the lake and feel they can do the rowing.

Collin heads back up the wall and gets the clue for his team. So now, they’re in second place after all the maneuvering by the other teams.

After Paula & Natasha push off into the lake, Terri & Henry and the sisters arrive so they can do the Waka detour. Had these three teams chosen this before, they might not have lost so much time at the wall.

Sophie & Aurelia arrive at the climbing wall and Aurelia goes in to determine whether she can do this task. My suggestion, turn back while you can, but they don’t. Daichi & Sawaka then arrive at the lake, followed by the Dancing Moms. Paula & Natasha get their first of three flags.

Then Terri & Henry were trying to get closer to get their first flag when they capsized. As Henry says, “In the Navy, when you’re in the water, you’re in deep trouble. Our job is to stay out of the water.” And he added, “I think the ‘N’ in Navy stands for non-swimmer.” At least he has a sense of humor about the whole thing. He and Terri and we, all got a good laugh out of this.

Ann & Diane and Daichi & Sawaka were the next to row. But you know that not just one team is going into the water. And indeed, Vanessa & Pam are next to go in. They said the water was freezing cold. Then Daichi & Sawaka were next to capsize. So you had three teams all in the cold water. Plus, Daichi said he lost the flags so he and his sister had to the entire course all over again. Ann & Diane saw all this and took advantage of the three teams’ misfortune. They did not capsize and were to get all three of their flags without any incident.

Over to Aurelia, she gets halfway up the wall and then has to come down. Not good. And Sophie tells her she does not want to be eliminated because of the rock climb.

Rovilson & Marc are the first to hit the Vineyard and get their next clue. They find they will have to go to the old Kingseat Psychiatric Hospital which is now called the Spookers Haunted House. Once they go through the entire house, they’ll be able to receive their next clue and exit the hospital.

When Marc reads the fact that the place is haunted, Rovilson is none too happy.

Over to the Lake, Paula & Natasha finish the task are are now third to finish the Detour. Just for good measure, Terri & Henry capsize just as they reach the dock, but they’re able to get their next clue and are 4th. Quickly, the teams are finishing up. Ann & Diane are next followed by wet Vanessa & Pamela.

We get a shot of Brett & Kinar finally reaching the bridge for the bungy jump and the sun is starting to set in New Zealand. At the wall, Aurelia falls off. Sophie grabs her muscles and says, “You can do this.” But as we’ll see, this would be a moment of frustration for Sophie, plus she’s getting ready to blow. She says, “Even if you have to use your mouth to bite the hold, just do it.” Oooh Sophie, be careful.

Brett & Kinar have now climbed up to the jumping point, knowing full well they’re the last.

Sophie then is chastising Aurelia as she can’t make it up the wall. She says, “Don’t be a wimp right now. You have so much energy to talk and now you can’t …” The anger is building. At this point, they should have switched to the canoe, but Sophie says in her confessional that in a stressful situation and you have to push someone, she uses “hard love”. They then switch, but Sophie is angry and says, “I’m very disappointed in you. She never listens and of course, I have to pay the price.” So they leave the wall climb and head for the Lake.

In the meantime, a soaking wet and shivering Daichi & Sawaka are finished and they get their next clue. As she reads the clue, Sawaka just chatters through it. She and Daichi just want to get warm. I can’t blame them.

Sophie is angry in the car as they drive to the boats. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg for them.

Brett does the bungy jump and is able to get the next clue. And Brett decides to the wall. Wrong choice.

Sophie and Aurelia get to the lake and set off to get their flags as nighttime is falling over the Auckland area. Adrian & Collin are next to get to the Vineyard and they get their next clue. The next scenes show Rovilson sleeping in the car, although he’s fully aware the camera is on, and he tells Marc to keep going. Aurelia & Sophie are getting their flags.

Now fully dark, all-female teams, Ann & Diane, Vanessa & Pamela and Pamela & Natasha all arrive at the vineyard to get their next clue. The girl-girl teams are all still in the race and doing rather well. I’m quite impressed with this. And finally, Sophie & Aurelia are done rowing and in 8th place. It’s amazing what happens next to them and the sisters as they both are trying to get to their next locations.

Rovilson & Marc are the first to get to Spookers and they see all types of freaks. This can scare even the least squeamish person. And as they walk through the hospital, Rovilson says this is like his last date. Sure. Just get your clue and shut up. They get through mugging their way for the camera and once they receive the clue, they’re told to take a hurricane lamp and make their way on foot to the pit stop.

Surrounding the Haunted House is the Forest of Fear. Just like the hospital, the forest is said to be truly haunted. This will be the 3rd pit stop for this leg of the race. If it had been raining, this would have been the perfect setting to the Haunted House, but alas, it was not. The last team to check in would be eliminated. Rovilson & Marc set off on the marked path.

Back at the vineyard, both Terri & Henry and Daichi & Sawaka got their clues and proceeded to head to Spookers.

The guys finally make to the mat and indeed are declared first for their efforts. And they won a year’s worth of free gas from Caltex. Ho hum. I think if I heard correctly, Rovilson said all he needs is a car. Shut up.

So we cut to Aurelia driving the car to the vineyard, but she’s talking and it’s driving Sophie nuts. Sophie finally asks Aurelia not to talk for an hour. Then it all comes out. Sophie says, “It’s really hard not to be mean to you. ” But Aurelia comes back with, “Can you be mean outside, after I’m finished driving please?” This team is showing the signs of the problems they had when they were living together. Apparently, Sophie can only take Aurelia in small doses, although Aurelia seemingly is trying to make the best of it. These two women just don’t get along.

It was then Adrian & Collin’s turn to go into the Haunted House, but of course, Collin is deaf so he couldn’t hear anything. All they could do was laugh as they walked through the entire house. And they made it through and got their next clue.

Dancing Moms Ann & Diane were next and they went through with a smile as well. And gym buddies Adrian & Collin made it to the mat in 2nd place and a very nice finish for them.

Next to the mat were Ann & Diane followed by Paula & Natasha. This marked the third straight 3rd place finish for Ann & Diane.

As Vanessa & Pamela were heading to the Haunted House, they were hit by a car which you can see outside the driver’s side windows. Because they got into an accident, the police had to be called and this forced the sisters to be delayed to the finish.

Over to the climbing wall, Brett tried to make it up, but slipped and had to come down.

At Spookers, Terri & Henry were making their way through the Haunted House. She was clutching to Henry and screamed every time a freak came near her. It was actually quite funny. And she was not liking the experience one bit. When she and Henry reached the end to get their clue, she gave the character a hug, something he did not respond to.

They left the Haunted House and were on their way to the check-in.

Now with Vanessa & Pamela, they had to fill out the regular police paperwork and explain what happened.

They were already stressed out and felt they were falling way behind in the race. They estimated th
eir delay at about a half hour. And Vanessa said all they could do was to finish the race.

Hitting the mat were Terri & Henry, going up three spots to 5th place.

Sophie & Aurelia went into a gas station as they were very lost on the way to the Vineyard. Instead of driving south, Aurelia drove north and they had to double back. Had Brett & Kinar been so far behind, this team would have definitely been behind the 8 ball, but as we would see, they would remain in the race.

Daichi & Sawaka were next into the Haunted House. She breathed a huge sigh of relief when they finished walking through the hospital. And they were solidly in 6th place as they checked in with Alan.

Vanessa & Pamela were next to walk through the hospital. They just walked through in a no-nonsense manner and did not want to put up with any of the characters.

Over to Sophie & Aurelia, they were stopped on the side of the road. Aurelia showed here where Matanaka was and Sophie snapped saying, “I cannot trust you anymore.” Harsh words, Sophie. And she added, “I would rather give up the race than to trust you again.” But as she explained in the post-leg confessional, Sophie said she was not saying bad things about Aurelia all the time, but she said it was hard to be subjective. I think she meant objective, but that’s ok, we get your point, darling.

As Vanessa & Pamela hit the mat, they were thoroughly convinced that they had been eliminated, but imagine their surprise when Alan told them they were in 7th. They decided to go to the end and they were rewarded.

Now, we cut over to Brett who has finally made it to the top of the climbing wall. It’s getting late. But he’s got his flag. Now it’s up to Kinar to climb. But she’s having trouble making it up the first two steps.

Sophie & Aurelia have finally made it to the Vineyard. Aurelia discovers one more clue left. She asks how could that be? Sophie replies one team is lost. Then Aurelia asks, “How far could they go? Like Australia?” That was truly funny. But Brett & Kinar didn’t go to Australia. They’re still at the climbing wall.

She can’t make it up and she’s in tears. She’s disappointed that she can’t go up the wall and after considering quitting the leg, they decide to head for the boats.

Sophie & Aurelia head into the Haunted House where they are totally spooked by everything. They scream through the hospital and she admits she screamed more here than at the bungy jump. I’m laughing as they make it through the hospital as primal screaming can sometimes be therapeutic. Sophie looks like she suffered through the entire time. Aurelia still manages a smile. This team is funny.

Brett & Kinar then talk about not doing either task, but they don’t want to get a time penalty so they trudge onto the Lake.

As they hit the mat, Sophie & Aurelia find they’re still in the race in 8th place. They’re way behind Rovilson & Marc, but the main thing is that they’re not eliminated. Sophie asks, “How can anyone do worse than we did today?”

Sophie, that team is Brett & Kinar and as they arrive to the Lake, they find that the Hours of Operation are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and they’re way too late to do this detour.

And they’re instructed to head to the mat where Alan, without the greeter, informs them that all of the other teams have checked in and thus, they’ve been eliminated.

As you can see, they took it well. Brett said the three things they wanted to do on the race was to have fun, to be good to each other and to never, ever give up. To their credit, they did achieve all three, but unfortunately, they got behind the 8 ball once they landed in New Zealand and never recovered. They were a nice team and I can’t really kill them for anything they did.

So our order of finish:

1. Rovilson & Marc – winners of free gas from Caltex for a year.
2. Adrian & Collin
3. Ann & Diane – their third straight 3rd place finish.
4. Paula & Natasha – once again, all-female teams are doing well in this race.
5. Terri & Henry
6. Daichi & Sawaka
7. Vanessa & Pamela
8. Sophie & Aurelia
9. Brett & Kinar – eliminated
