Sports Media Weekly No. 176 (Next to Last Edition) — Ed Sherman, The Sherman Report

This is the next-to-last edition of the Sports Media Weekly podcast as Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal announced earlier this week that he is shutting down his site as of January 1. A sad day for those of us who have gotten to know Keith. I understand why he’s doing it as Keith wants to simplify his life and spend more time on his career and his family. It’ll affect how I schedule the new Fang’s Bites podcast, but more on that in a separate post.

For this podcast, our good friend Ed Sherman of The Sherman Report joins us for our “Third Man In” segment. Among the topics discussed:

  • The FCC announcing its looking into eliminating sports blackouts and how it could or could not affect the National Football League.
  • ESPN unveiling its six channel “Megacast” for the BCS National Championship Game.
  • NBC telling the world of its coverage plans for the 2014 Sochi Olympics and the amount of hours both online and on television.
  • ESPN’s Outside the Lines winning a prestigious award despite being buried on Sunday mornings and on weekday afternoons.
  • Also the lack of promotion for the new ESPN book “League of Denial” while Colin Cowherd’s book has become a bestseller.

Keith and I also discussed the end of Sports Media Journal and our run on Sports Media Weekly. It’s been a great time and a great partnership with Keith.

You can listen to the podcast on iTunes or you can find it right here.
