Sports Media Weekly No. 167, Steve Lepore, Awful Announcing & USA Today and Adam Schein, CBS Sports Network

Another edition of the Sports Media Weekly podcast. I’ve been lax in posting these. My apologies. In this particular episode, we have another two guests.

For the “Third Man In,” we go to the always hustling Steve Lepore who just joined Awful Announcing and just this week, said he will do some work for USA Today, so great to see him doing so well.

In the News of the Week segment, Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal and I along with Steve discuss the following topics:

  • MLB Postseason coverage on TBS and the ratings.
  • How NBCSN has become so dependent on the NHL and vice versa.
  • In addition to NBCSN using the NHL to grow, it’s also turning to college hockey as are Big Ten Network and CBS Sports Network.
  • And we look at Peyton Manning’s effects on the NFL’s TV ratings plus how the networks will fight over Denver Broncos games later this season.

Our guest is Adam Schein, the host of That Other Pregame Show and NFL Monday QB on CBS Sports Network, Schein on Sports on SiriusXM’s Mad Dog Radio, plus Loud Mouths on SNY.

Among the topics we discuss with Adam:

  • His multiple duties on various different networks and platforms.
  • How it’s different hosting That Other Pregame Show as compared with NFL Monday QB.
  • His friendship with NFL on CBS analyst Phil Simms.
  • Breaking in rookie TV analysts Bart Scott and Amy Trask.
  • And his work on Mad Dog Radio.

Overall, a very fun podcast. Subscribe to the podcast at iTunes by searching “Sports Media Journal” or you can listen right here.
