NFL Network Quotage for Week 12 of the 2014 Season

We move to NFL Network’s quotage which again is more than 3,000-words. It’s 3,112 to be exact.

QUOTES FROM WEEK 12 EDITIONS OF NFL NETWORK’S NFL GAMEDAY FIRST & NFL GAMEDAY MORNING

Quotes from NFL GameDay First

NFL Network GameDay First
Every Sunday morning at 7:00 AM ET, NFL Network is first on the field with NFL GameDay First. Host Melissa Stark, co-host/analyst Sterling Sharpe, and analysts Shaun O’Hara and Michael Robinson provide the first analysis of the day’s games, while NFL Network reporters stationed across the league report from stadiums with the first on-location reports of the day.

“I think [the Green Bay Packers] are the most complete team in the NFC.” – Shaun O’Hara on the Green Bay Packers

A quarterback that can throw it that often and not turn it over is a thing of beauty.” –Sterling Sharpe on Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers

“[Mike] McCarthy told me that over the course of his entire coaching career, he has never had more trust in a quarterback than he has in Aaron Rodgers right now.” – Albert Breer on the relationship between Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy

You look around at the other quarterbacks in the league and they all say ‘I need to play better.’ You never hear them say ‘Well, everyone else needs to help me.’” – Shaun O’Hara on Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III’s recent comments to the media

I used to talk to Pete Carroll about Bill Belichick all the time and Pete would just tell me that Belichick was like some type of a prodigy in football. He really understands football situations and understands when a player is almost done with his career. He understands when a certain defense works with a certain offense. He is a game day planner and he makes adjustments like no one has ever made in this league. Great coach.” – Michael Robinson on why Bill Belichick is such a successful coach

“That [New England Patriots] defense is making plays. They’ve scored 81 points off 19 takeaways. They have that killer instinct. Brandon Browner, he was a guy in the Legion of Boom in Seattle, he brought the intensity. He brought the competitive nature in the weight room. He challenged Richard Sherman, he would challenge Earl Thomas…he brought the life to the group. In training camp when guys don’t want to be out there, he brings the enthusiasm. Brandon Browner is a lightning rod to this defense and he’s done a great job. His attitude is very infectious.” – Michael Robinson on who deserves the most credit for the Patriots 6-game winning streak

The New England Patriots on this six game winning streak are averaging over 40 points a game. That’s impressive if you think about who (Tom Brady) is doing it with. They are finding different ways to win football games and the turnaround has been spectacular.” –Shaun O’Hara on the New England Patriots

I think it’s just a quarterback play. The one thing you don’t have to worry about is having a quarterback, and even though he threw two horrible interceptions during Sunday Night Football, he’s got a quarterback that he can trust. That sets the table for everything else because you know Tom Brady is going to give you points. Points mean that we can get really cued on defense. Points and good defense…Are why the New England Patriots always have the chance to get themselves not only to the playoffs, but to a Super Bowl.” – Sterling Sharpe on why Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots have been so successful

Indianapolis Colts Wide Receiver T.Y. Hilton with Michael Irvin

NFL Network’s Michael Irvin spoke with Indianapolis Colts wide receiver T.Y. Hilton for an interview on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay Morning:

On whether or not Indianapolis is the perfect city for him:
“Yes, Indy is a perfect fit. I love the city. I love everything about it and it’s quite just the way I like it. You don’t have to worry about hearing the gun shots before laying your head down; you don’t have to worry about that anymore.”

On playing with a chip on his shoulder:
“I’ve been an underdog my whole life. Teams passed up on me when I was sitting on the board. I’ve seen the receivers that went before me. Were they better than me? No. So whatever team that drafted me, I was going to make the other 31 pay no matter what. That chip on my shoulder will never ever go away because that’s how I play the game.”

On his relationship with Andrew Luck:
“The relationship with me and [Andrew Luck] is special, very unique. I give him a look, he gives me a look, and it’s that time.

On his two kids’ reaction to his “T.Y.” touchdown celebration and where he got it:
“They love it. Once I hit the end zone, they start doing it with me. I got it from T.O. – I saw him do the “T.”

New England Patriots Head Coach Bill Belichick with Melissa Stark

NFL Network’s Melissa Stark spoke with New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick for an interview on NFL Network’s NFL GameDay First and NFL GameDay Morning:

On how he will adjust the game plan when facing Ndamukong Suh:
“He changes everything. You can’t let him penetrate or he will foul the whole play up. You’ve got to be able to secure him at the line of scrimmage, and again that is a lot easier said than done because of his talent and also some of the different looks they give you. He is very disruptive in both the running and the passing game, he has got great effort, he makes plays in pursuit, so really there are no weakness to his game and he has got to be blocked on every play no matter what the play is.”

On what tight end Rob Gronkowski said to him after scoring a touchdown last week:
“We had talked about a couple of things during the week in the game and then they sort of happened that way during the game. So I just reminded him of those and he agreed with me and reminded me that he did it just the way he said he was going to do it.”

On Rob Gronkowski’s love of the game:
“Rob [Gronkowski] has a great energy and love for the game. At times, he just bubbles over. It is just Rob being Rob.”

On Rob Gronkowski’s maturity on the field:
“Rob [Gronkowski] works very hard. He comes early, he stays late, he is very physically and mentally touch, you can’t really get him down and you can’t break him. He can really fight through it and as a coach, sometimes you try to put players in that situation and you try to break them down and you try to see how much they can take but Rob has a lot of resilience and a lot of mental and physical toughness.”

On his relationship with quarterback Tom Brady:
“It has always been good. I think Tom [Brady] and I have always had a good relationship. He has been great to work with. He has a tremendous work ethic, preparation, he is very smart and we have learned a lot from working with each other. Just seeing the game through a quarterback’s eyes is different than seeing it from the press box or the sidelines as a coach. Again, I think it is valuable both ways.”

On whether or not he ever yells at his players:
“I try to do my job, which is to coach all the players on the team. I don’t coach them based on tenure or statistics or draft status or anything else. I try to coach the team as an entire team. I am just the coach, and that is what I try to do.”

Quotes from NFL GameDay Morning

NFL Network NFL GameDay Morning
NFL GameDay Morning is the most comprehensive pregame show on Sunday morning, airing at 9:00 AM ET for four hours on NFL Network and taking viewers straight up to kickoff. Host Rich Eisen joins analysts Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Kurt Warner, Warren Sapp and Michael Irvin to bring fans the latest news, injury reports, pregame analysis and game previews. Additionally, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport provides the latest inside information from around the league.

“Peyton Manning is not playing good football right now. I’m putting Denver on upset alert.” – Kurt Warner on Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning

I think anytime that your quarterback, especially one as good as Peyton Manning, is playing badly you want to worry about it but I think it’s just a bump in the road. We have seen this from a lot of our teams that we say are great. Remember to relax…I think it is just a part of what you go through in figuring out what kind of team you are going to be.” – Marshall Faulk on why the Denver Broncos should not worry about their loss last week

“Can it all fall apart and the Cowboys be back to where they were the prior year? The answer is absolutely not. Starting today, the Cowboys grab total control of the [NFC] East.” – Michael Irvin on the Dallas Cowboys

“[Mark Sanchez] is the guy that is going to direct [the Philadelphia Eagles] to the playoffs.” – Steve Mariucci on Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez

There are a lot of reasons why the Cowboys are going to win this thing… The quarterback position favors [Tony] Romo over [Mark] Sanchez, who is the backup. The Cowboys have a better run game and a much better offensive line. The Eagles are all banged up and the Cowboys are better on defense. The Cowboys…should win this division but we are getting late in the season, anything could happen.” – Steve Mariucci on what team is going to win the NFC East

“I thought Monday [Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III] were both a little bit out of whack and they ended up both trying to rectify if later on in the week with apologies and all that good stuff.” – Steve Mariucci on Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III’s press conferences

“There’s so much at stake right here. The Redskins organization, they have decide after the end of this season if they’re going to exercise the fifth year option on RGIII. That’s coming up right around the corner, about a month and a half. Figure it out. Right now, [Robert Griffin III] is auditioning for that.” – Steve Mariucci on the Washington Redskins quarterback situation

“It leads me to ask the question for RGIII, in his defense, as to why is he working on his angle? Is he the franchise quarterback?  Well, based on his news, no. Because guess what you do not do to franchise quarterbacks, you don’t call them out like that. If you’re watching the NFL today, Jay Cutler looks just like RGIII and at no point in time has his head coach rolled him under the bus…as a coach in this league, you don’t need credibility anymore to step out on a player and speak out the way he did. Last time I checked, you needed to be something in this league, have something in this league, as in jewelries, as in trophies, to take somebody or tell somebody what they are not doing the right way, that way. We accepted that kind of stuff from Bill Parcells and Bill Belichick about players. But to just – you’re a new head coach. Sit that player down, get his respect, [and] get the respect of the rest of the players before you do something like that.” – Marshall Faulk on the Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III relationship

“[Rob Gronkowski’s] measurable are off the charts…maybe when it’s all said and done, he will be the most complete tight end this league has ever seen.” – Steve Mariucci on New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski

“[Rob Gronkowski’s] difference immeasurable…Gronk can do it all.” – Warren Sapp on New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski

“I truly believe that when he’s healthy, [Rob Gronkowski] is the biggest impact player for any offense outside of the quarterback in the National Football League.” – Kurt Warner on New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski

If I knew [Bill Belichick’s] secret, I’d still be coaching. He is as good as they get. We are going to be mentioning this guy right here with Lombardi and Shula and Walsh and all of the great ones. It’s amazing how one team and one coach can dominate a division for so long over 12 years.” – Steve Mariucci on Bill Belichick’s success as the head coach of the New England Patriots

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport

On Jay Gruden calling out Robert Griffin III:
“I talked to four Redskins sources over the course of the week to try to understand the situation and what I am told is Jay Gruden received positive feedback after his press conference on RGIII mainly because of the accountability that he now brings to this football team. Remember in the past it would have been all on RGIII. I’m sure they would have asked him, Dan Snyder specifically, would have asked him to lighten up. That was simply not the case. It shows that upper management does back their coach. The landscape has changed for RGIII in Washington. Let me give you an example. In the past, he had certain rules, things he was allowed to do that others were not like his wife was allowed places in training camp. Other teammates’ wives were not. His family basically had an all access pass. None of that is the case now. It is now simply based on performance. Which brings me to the starting quarterback position. I’m told by several sources Jay Gruden does have the ability to bench RGIII if necessary if he simply does not play well enough. I’m told it is not out of the question.”

On the possibility Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III could be benched prior to the game against the Indianapolis Colts:
“Everything is possible because as Jay Gruden has said very clearly, and even Robert Griffin III has said, the performance has not been good enough. [Robert Griffin III] actually had a good week of practice I’m told but the question is whether or not it will translate to the game. Let me share with you a disturbing detail I dug up this week. Redskins coaches have gone back to 2012. They’ve studied the film that showed RGIII as successful as he’s ever been. They have doubts that he can be physically the player he was back then. They believe injuries have taken their toll. They’re going to try to do what they can today to make him comfortable, get him some easy reads, have him have some success early but they do wonder if he can ever be the kind of player he once was.”

On Jay Gruden’s public commentary on Robert Griffin III with Washing Redskins management:
“This is a slightly awkward situation so let me explain how awkward it actually is. Did you know that Jay Gruden and Robert Griffin III are actually neighbors? Not next door, but basically next door to each other. Maybe when they’re walking the dog they can talk about this situation. Let me explain what’s happened. Jay Gruden comes out on Wednesday and says what he did about RGIII and I’m told the team’s brass has offered support for him in this case whereas in the past this might not have happened with this quarterback. In fact, Jay Gruden does have license to bench RGIII possibly today if he is not performing up to standards. All they want is to be able to be successful. Things certainly have changed for RGIII over the past several of years. There are no more special rules for him. His wife used to be allowed where other wives were not in training camp. His family essentially had an all access pass to the facility. That is no longer the case. So the Redskins, what they have tried to do is do everything they can to have RGIII be successful. They went back and studied the 2012 tape and there are doubts internally that he has the skills – the physical skills to be the kind of player he was back then. In fact, I’m told by sources they’ve actually instructed him, don’t run. We don’t want you to get hurt.

On what is next for Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson:
“Adrian Peterson has his appeals hearing on December 2 with third party arbitrator Harold Henderson. He does not expect to win, but his argument is that he is being judged on this personal conduct policy that did not exist when he had his infraction with his four year old son. I am told that if Adrian Peterson loses his appeal he may explore legal options to potentially seek damages for having to sit out this season. As far as his 2015 status, I’m told by sources the Vikings football people would like him back but Peterson himself is not sure that he can be back in Minnesota in that climate, something he would like to figure out. He’s eligible to return in April, the middle of April. Remember, that is a month after free agency begins a little bit of no-man’s land so if he is not going to play for the Vikings, the likelihood is they will try to trade him. Maybe, his hometown Dallas Cowboys who could let DeMarco Murray walk after this year.”
