Why Does Michigan Have the Best College Football Program?

Where do we begin? There are many reasons why The Michigan Wolverines are the best college football team in NCAA footballing history. Of course, every Notre Dame fan will argue that this isn’t the case, but it was the University of Michigan who taught Notre Dame to play football in the first place. Any fan of Ohio State will also dispute this claim, but this is usually because most of the fans are ill-informed. Recent history has little meaning when we look at who has dominated the sport since it first began.

If you’re an Ohio State fan, a Notre Dame fan, or you’re not sure which team to support, then carry on to read all about why Michigan has the best college football team of all time.

History of Michigan’s College Football Team

Whether you’re a Michigan fan or you’re trying to find out some information about them, then here is a chance for you to find out a little bit about the team.

Michigan’s football team have accrued 872 wins and a winning percentage of 0.740. This shows just how good they are and have been throughout history. They have won the season on 110 occasions, and since 1879, they have had 25 undefeated seasons. This is more than any other football team in American history.

Michigan is currently one of only three teams to have won against independent schools and all of the Division 1-A football conference. This is an amazing achievement if you think about how many conferences there are in football. In 1901, they were also the first team to be undefeated, not allow a team to score and be untied, and go on to win the Rose Bowl without being scored on. The same 1901 team also went on to win the National Championship, which made Michigan Wolverine footballing history.

Michigan has won the Conference Championship on 42 occasions, compared to Ohio State’s 35 wins. The Wolverines have only ever lost the season on 8 occasions, with the last occasion being on October 20th 1984 against Iowa.

Michigan Football Stadium

Michigan Stadium is also known as ‘The Big House’ due to its sheer size. It is the second biggest and one of the most famous football stadiums in America. If you’re wanting to watch a football game at this stadium, then Ticket Sales sell both concert and game tickets.

The Michigan Stadium could originally seat 72,000 fans, but in 2010, renovations were completed so that the stadium can now accommodate 108,000 fans at any one time.

Michigan Vs Ohio State’s Song

Okay, so let’s get back to comparing Michigan to Ohio State. Michigan’s well recognized song, The Victors, was written after a last minute win against the University of Chicago. Ohio State’s song was written after an embarrassing defeat.

If you’re a Michigan fan or considering becoming one, then all of this should fill you with great strength and pride. Michigan is an amazing football team who will never go away. Go blue!
