Almost 21 Million People Watched Eagles-Giants

NBC has sent out a second release this time touting viewership for Sunday Night Football. Earlier today, NBC crowed about the overnight ratings which are the 4th highest this season. Here’s the release discussing the viewership numbers.

Eagles Win Over Giants is 57% Higher Than Week 14 in 2008

Seventh Game This Season on NBC With More Than 20 Million Viewers

NEW YORK – Dec. 14, 2009 – Last night's Eagles-Giants game on "NBC Sunday Night Football" was seen by 20.9 million viewers, an increase of 57 percent over the comparable game from Week 14 in 2008 (Redskins-Ravens, 13.3 million) and is NBC's seventh game this season with viewership surpassing 20 million, according to early fast national data provided to NBC today by Nielsen Media Research.

The Eagles 45-38 victory over the Giants had a household rating of 12.7 and a 21 share, also up 57 percent over last year's Week 14 game, which drew an 8.1/13 national household rating.

SEVENTH GAME THIS SEASON WITH 20+ MILLION VIEWERS: Last night's game marks NBC's seventh game this season with viewership exceeding 20 million. By comparison, two games surpassed 20 million viewers in 2008 and 2006, and just one such game in 2007.

SUNDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL SEASON AVERAGE UP 22 PERCENT: Through 14 weeks, "Sunday Night Football" is averaging 19.6 million viewers, an increase of 22 percent over 2008 (16.1 million) and the highest average since the premier primetime package came to NBC in 2006. The household rating through 14 weeks is 11.9/19, an increase of 20 percent over last year.

SNF VIEWERSHIP THROUGH WEEK 14:
2009: 19.6 million
2008: 16.1 million (up 22 percent)
2007: 16.2 million (up 21 percent)
2006: 17.5 million (up 12 percent)

So Sunday Night Football continues to rack in the viewership this season.
