TNT Receives Highest Viewership Ever For NBA Rising Stars Challenge

For NBA All-Star Weekend and having Jeremy Lin in the Rising Stars Challenge, TNT saw its highest-ever ratings for the event. The game between the NBA’s best rookies and sophomores saw a 1.7 rating, up from the 1.6 that was the previous record in 2004 and up from the 1.5 for last year’s game. Average viewership came just under 2 million people.

TNT’s Exclusive Coverage of the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge Is Most-Watched Telecast in Event History with More than 2.7 Million Total Viewers, 1.7 US HH Rtg and More than 1.9 Million HH

TNT’s exclusive coverage of the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star 2012 in Orlando was the most-watched telecast in the event’s history, surpassing the 2004 game. Last night’s contest delivered 2,729,000 total viewers (+26% vs. 2,165,000 in 2004); 1.7 US HH Rtg (+6% vs. 1.6 in 2004) and 1,911,000 overall households (+13% vs. 1,689,000 in 2004). Prior to this year, the most-watched telecast was the 2004 game featuring future NBA All-Stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony.

TNT’s telecast last night compared to the 2011 Rookie game:

  • U.S. rating: 1.7 (+13% vs. 1.5 rating in 2011)
  • Total viewers: 2,729,000 (+12% vs. 2,440,000 in 2011)
  • Households: 1,911,000 (+11% vs. 1,725,000 in 2011)

To date, the Top 5 NBA regular-season games on cable have all aired on TNT. Through the first half of the NBA season, TNT is experiencing double-digit growth compared to last year’s most-watched season on the network.
