National Geographic Channel Presents Border Wars

I have a couple of programming notes from my friends over at National Geographic Channel. I’m always glad to post them because the programs are always interesting. Now if the Fox PR people could do this for 24 and/or the ABC PR people could do this for Lost, I’d be a very happy camper. Anyway, on Sunday, NatGeo has an upcoming program on the U.S. Border Patrol and what it has to deal with along our borders. I’m sure Lou Dobbs would love to watch this.

BORDER WARS: LAST DEFENSE
New Series begins Sunday, January 10 at 9PM ET/PT – Special Sneak Preview
Monday, January 11 at 8PM ET/PT – Encore Presentation

A special undercover group shuts down a house in Nogales where illegal immigrants are believed to be living. After the house is surrounded and its occupants apprehended, agents must pick out the human smugglers, or “coyotes,” and get these suspected criminals off the streets. And at the Nogales port of entry, we meet a young rookie agent who is tested by clever drug traffickers. Then, go underground into the city’s drainage tunnels, where smugglers, fugitives and illegal immigrants try to escape detection below the streets. An astonishing call goes out to all agents in the area: A new tunnel has been found … and this latest discovery is especially elaborate and sophisticated.

Video “Desert Night Patrol” – Border patrol agents pursue a group of illegal immigrants moving through the desert at night.

Video “Drugs with Hot Sauce” – Border patrol officers dismantle a car carrying 50 lbs of illegal drugs, packaged with a special ingredients to throw off the dogs.

Video “Human Smugglers” – Border patrol officers pursue men suspected of smuggling illegal immigrants into the U.S.

And here’s a look at the Borders Wars regular series premiere on Monday.

BORDER WARS: CITY UNDER SEIGE

Officer Hector Navarro stops a silver pickup truck at the Nogales port of entry. The driver is acting suspiciously and traveling alone, which is a red flag. A police canine is called in to sniff for narcotics, and a cleverly hidden trove of heroin is uncovered — breaking an all-time record for drug busts at this port of entry. Meanwhile, other officers work to apprehend a group that could be illegal immigrants seeking work or armed drug smugglers hiding in a forest of thick mesquite. And when a suspect is pulled out of the entrance line at the Nogales pedestrian gate, Officer Mark Shanley discovers that he is a wanted man with a long criminal past — and then the situation unexpectedly turns into a medical emergency.

Video “Smuggler’s Tunnel” – Agents locate a sophisticated smuggling tunnel hidden below the streets of Nogales.

Video “Illegal Crossing” – When two illegal immigrants attempt to cross into Arizona, border agents stop them in their tracks.

Certainly looks quite interesting. Borders Wars: Last Defense premieres Sunday night at 9 and Border Wars: City Under Siege premieres Monday night at 9, both on National Geographic Channel.
