Fang's Bites Musical Interlude: The Dream Super Bowl Halftime Set List For The Who

I haven’t done a Musical Interlude in a very long time. Seeing a story on the Super Bowl Halftime set gave me some inspiration tonight.

The Super Bowl Halftime Set List is supposed to be a guarded secret until Halftime of the Super Bowl, but no one told Pete Townsend of The Who and he released it to Billboard magazine tonight. The Chairman says the set is going to be a bit of a mashup:

“A bit of ‘Baba O’Riley,’ a bit of ‘Pinball Wizard,’ a bit of the close of ‘Tommy,’ a bit of ‘Who Are You,’ and a bit of ‘Won’t Get Fooled Again.'”

That’s nice and all, but if I were producing the Halftime show and Mr. Townsend gave me control of the set list, it would look something like this:

I’d start with 5.15 from Quadrophenia. This is from BBC’s Top of the Pops in 1973.

That would be followed by the Live at Leeds version of The Magic Bus. This is awesome.

Then we would move to Squeeze Box.

That would be followed up by Boris The Spider, but that would be hard without The Ox, the late John Entwistle. From Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens in 1982, John doing the lead vocals.

With Super Bowl XLIV being on CBS, it’s only natural that Who Are You be played, as it’s the theme for CSI. Here’s the official music video for Who Are You. Drummer Keith Moon being so playful. He died shortly after this was made.

And we would end halftime with Love, Reign O’er Me. We started with a song from Quadrophenia and we end with a song with Quadrophenia.

Of course, this would be way too long for the NFL’s tastes, but it would be my show. It runs for as long as I would want.
