MLB To Rebrand MLB Home Plate Radio As MLB Network Radio

In a move to integrate MLB Network on Sirius XM Radio, MLB Home Plate Radio (XM channel 175, Sirius Channel 210) will be renamed as of April 4 as MLB Network Radio. I think it’s a good move. This will bring MLB Network programming to Sirius XM listeners including simulcasts of MLB Tonight and other shows.

The full press release is after the jump.

MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL TO REBRAND MLB HOME PLATE CHANNEL ON XM SATELLITE RADIO AS MLB NETWORK RADIO
Major League Baseball and MLB Network today announced that Major League Baseball will rebrand the MLB Home Plate channel on XM as MLB Network Radio, effective Sunday, April 4, for the start of the 2010 Championship Season. MLB Network Radio will simulcast a substantial amount of MLB Network’s television programming, including MLB Tonight, MLB Network’s live nightly studio show, live every weekday during the regular season. MLB Network Radio will continue to air MLB Home Plate’s existing daytime lineup of talk programming.
MLB Network Radio will be available on XM channel 175 & SIRIUS channel 210 (Best of XM). Additional simulcast programming will be announced throughout the 2010 season.
“We feel fortunate to have powerful platforms on both television and satellite radio that are dedicated to Major League Baseball 24 hours a day, 365 days a year,” said Chris Tully, Senior Vice President, Broadcasting, Major League Baseball. “In bringing MLB Network content to MLB Network Radio listeners through our partnership with Sirius XM, we’re maximizing both platforms for the benefit of fans.”
“We are excited to provide our live and feature programming, including our signature studio show, MLB Tonight, to a different audience at MLB Network Radio on XM,” said Tony Petitti, President and CEO of MLB Network. “When fans are in their cars and can’t watch MLB Network on TV, they can tune in to our programming on satellite radio. It’s important for us to continue to raise awareness about MLB Network’s programming and deep roster of on-air talent as we enter our second regular season on the air.”

I think it’s a good move by MLB to simulcast MLB Network. The talk shows that MLB Home Plate airs during the day will continue without interruption.
