MLB Network is pleased over 9 Sports Emmy nominations including those for MLB Tonight, Billy Ripken, Harold Reynolds and Jim Kaat.

MLB Tonight Receives Two Nominations, Including Outstanding Daily Studio Show
Jim Kaat, Harold Reynolds, Bill Ripken & Tom Verducci All Nominated

MLB Network has received nine Sports Emmy Award nominations for 2012, as announced today by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. MLB Tonight, the 2011 and 2010 Sports Emmy Award winner for Outstanding Studio Show – Daily, was once again nominated in the category, in addition to Outstanding Technical Team Studio.

Harold Reynolds and Bill Ripken each earned a Sports Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Sports Personality – Studio Analyst category, marking Ripken’s first nomination and Reynolds’ third consecutive nomination in the category. Jim Kaat received his third nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Event Analyst, for which he was previously nominated for 2011 and 2009. MLB Network insider Tom Verducci earned his first Sports Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Sports Personality – Sports Reporter for his work on MLB Network and TBS.

MLB Network’s 2012 Division Series opening segment, “The Scrapbook” received nominations in the Outstanding Opening/Tease and Outstanding Graphic Design categories. The segment, which can be viewed here, brings to animated life a breathtaking scrapbook of Postseasons past.

MLB Network’s ninth nomination is in the category of Outstanding Live Event Audio/Sound for its groundbreaking presentation of live in-game audio during a 2012 Spring Training game telecast between the Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks. For the first time in an MLB game telecast, players and members of the coaching staffs on each team, including managers Kirk Gibson and Manny Acta, wore live microphones, in addition to live microphones positioned at each base, down the first- and third-base lines and along the outfield wall, producing in-game audio content on a scale that had not previously been done.

Since its launch in January 2009, MLB Network has received 37 Sports Emmy Award nominations and nine Sports Emmy Awards, with ten nominations and six awards for MLB Tonight alone. The 34th annual Sports Emmy Awards will be presented on Tuesday, May 7 in New York City.
