MLB NETWORK TO RE-AIR LAST NIGHT’S EXTRA-INNINGS VICTORY BY THE NETHERLANDS OVER THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC IN THE WORLD BASEBALL CLASSIC

Beginning at 9:30 a.m. ET this morning, MLB Network will air an encore presentation of last night’s thrilling 2-1 extra innings victory by The Netherlands over the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic. With the loser facing elimination in the World Baseball Classic, the game remained scoreless heading into extra innings. In the top of the 11th inning, Jose Reyes scored the first run of the game for the Dominicans on a fielding error by Eugene Kingsdale in right field. But The Netherlands came storming back in the bottom of the inning, as Kingsdale redeemed himself by driving in the tying run, and then scoring the winning run on a fielding error by Dominican first baseman Willy Aybar. The game also included memorable pitching performances by Ubaldo Jimenez, who started the game for the Dominican team and struck out a World Baseball Classic record 10 batters in only four innings of work, and three-time Cy Young award winner Pedro Martinez, who pitched three scoreless innings in relief of Jimenez. The bullpen of The Netherlands also came up big, with Alexander Smit, Rob Cordemas, Dennis Neuman, Diegomar Markwell and Leon Boyd combining to pitch seven innings of relief, allowing only two hits and no earned runs.

I’m doing Primetime and Late Night Viewing Picks. Back later.
