Videos of the Week: 1990's Dance Party

By the time you read this on Sunday, I’ll already have gotten up way too early to bring someone to the airport and then go to work.

Anyway, I told you last week that I was researching a new theme for the Videos of the Week and I do think you’ll like them.

I was on YouTube last Wednesday and while looking for something totally unrelated to today’s them, I happened to find some music videos from the 1990’s and started rocking out. I figured since I hadn’t done Videos of the Week in a while, I had the perfect subject to bring them back.

So here are some music videos of some of my favorite songs from the 1990’s. I’ll start with Elastica and Connection from 1995.

Here’s a group I got to see in Providence in 1996, Republica with its big hit, “Ready To Go”.

One of my favorite songs from this period was Tracy Bonham’s “Mother, Mother”. Tracy was a commercial jingle singer in Boston and made it big with this song. Great, great song.

One of the best Riot grrrl bands ever, L7 doing “Andres”. Donita Sparks rocked. She still does.

Here’s The Breeders with Kim Deal singing “Cannonball”.

If you know your music, you may have noticed Rhode Island’s own Tanya Donnelly in that Breeders video. Well, she formed her own band, Belly and their big hit, “Feed The Tree” was seen on MTV in the early 1990’s. I loved Belly and got to see this band live in Providence in the mid-1990’s.

Here’s another band I got to see in Providence live. Placebo and the great song, “Pure Morning”.

To remind you of your high school days, this is Nada Surf with “Popular”. This caused a little stir because there were grown naked men in the shower.

And last one for now. This is Meryn Cadell with a minor modern rock hit, “The Sweater”. Funny song. “The boy is a genuine hunk a, hunk a burning love…”

Next week, I’ll have more videos including Julianna Hatfield, Lucious Jackson, Prodigy, Garbage and much more.
