Ron Franklin Is Suing ESPN

Just two weeks after being fired by ESPN for making his “Sweet Baby” and “A-hole” remark to sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards, Ron Franklin is not going out with a whimper. He’s going out with guns ablazin’. Mike McCarthy of USA Today breaks news today, discovering that Franklin is suing ESPN for wrongful termination.

Franklin is not saying what damages he’s seeking or if he’s seeking his old job back (unlikely), however, it comes in the heels of author James Miller’s interview with Mike in which he states that ESPN employees are split on whether Franklin should have been fired or should have gone to sensitivity training instead.

This was Franklin’s second incident with a female sideline reporter, the first one being with Holly Rowe.

We’ll see where this lands. Ron Franklin worked for ESPN for 25 years. He had originally planned to retire after the 2009-10 season, but was offered a contract to return just before the 2010-11 year.
