A Thursday Afternoon Update

While I have computer access, I’ll give you an update. It looks like I’ll be getting my new computer next week so I ask that you be patient as I try to get through this rough stretch. It’s so nutty when you can’t use your own computer. But that’s the world we live in. We need a computer to blog and without one, we feel lost. So I hope that everything will work out later.

Let’s start with Newsday’s Neil Best who tells us that the next NHL outdoor game will apparently be played in Chicago. And Neil says there will be a public viewing of a rare tape of Don Larsen’s perfect game from the 1956 World Series.

CNBC’s Darren Rovell tells us that Upper Deck’s first baseball trading card is one of the most popular cards of all time.

Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette says the NHL Network will carry the first two games of the AHL’s Calder Cup Finals starting tonight.

William Houston of the Toronto Globe and Mail liked NBC’s broadcast of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Congratulations to NBC’s NHL voice Mike Emrick who was awarded the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Keeping with our hockey theme, the New York Post’s TV Sports blog notes that as the NHL Stanley Cup Finals moved to NBC, hockey outrated hoops in Detroit on Wednesday.

More hockey news, the Sports Media Watch notes that Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals on NBC saw an increase in the ratings from last year. And the SMW has some more ratings news and notes.

You want more ratings news? Maury Brown from the Biz of Basketball blog says TNT’s coverage of Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals was the highest rated NBA game on cable this season.

Sergio Ibarra from TV Week says the ESPY Awards will honor 1968 Olympians John Carlos and Tommie Smith with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. Both men did the Black Power salute while on the medal stand.

ESPN says it has debuted a new statistical graphic on its MLB telecasts.

The Orbitcast blog tells us that Sirius Satellite Radio will carry every game of the Euro 2008 soccer tournament starting next month.
