Monday Night Linkage

I’ll give you some links here this evening.

First, Ombudsman Le Anne Schreiber praises ESPN for tackling race issues head on.

Pete Dougherty of the Albany Times Union notes that the ratings for The Masters were down slightly on CBS Sunday.

Neil Best of Newsday says ratings for The Masters on ESPN set a record on Friday. Neil says if you think the CBS staff was referential towards Augusta National this past weekend, they have nothing on golf writers. And Neil tells us that Masters Champion Trevor Immelman will do the Top Ten List on the Late Show with David Letterman tonight.

The Sports Media Watch has some ratings news of note. First, it says the NHL Playoffs got off to a slow start on NBC this weekend. But it appears the NBA on ABC may have stemmed a downward ratings slide.

John Consoli of Mediaweek says the ratings for the NBA on TNT Thursday night doubleheaders increased by 13% over last year.

The Oklahoman’s Mel Bracht recaps the NBA season ending awards handed out by TNT analysts Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith.

Ken Schott of the Schenectady Gazette listened to the debut of a new local sports talk show.

Bruce Allen of the Boston Sports Media Watch says there were plenty of bad moments and poor taste on Boston sports talk radio in the past few days.

Mike Reynolds of Multichannel News says Versus has tabbed a new President from ESPN Star Sports in Singapore. Mike writes that DirecTV has signed a deal with FSN Northwest to show the full compliment of Seattle Mariners games this season.

Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News writes in his blog that ESPN Films is teaming up with Robert Redford to produce the story of Jackie Robinson breaking the baseball color barrier.

Maury Brown of the Biz of Sports websites (including the much linked to Biz of Baseball blog) has a very personal story about his son who is autistic. And Tim Lemke of the Washington Times is touched by the story as well.

Ray Frager of the Baltimore Sun has a Brian Billick alert.

Chris Pursell of TV Week writes in his Pressbox blog that the NFL Network and ESPN are finalizing their plans for the NFL Draft in New York later this month.

SPEED has hired some guy who won Last Comic Standing as the host of some show.

That’s it for tonight.
