For NHL fans, opening weekend is almost here. Plenty of games to watch Thursday, Friday and Saturday which is good for hockey fans like me. Unfortunately, DirecTV and Versus have not resolved their dispute and I still don’t have a TV, but that’s besides the point. Here’s CBC Sports’ announcement about Hockey Night in Canada’s opening weekend.
CBC’S HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA OPENING WEEKEND FEATURES ALL SIX CANADIAN TEAMS
CBC opens the season with an all-Canadian NHL doubleheader on Thursday, Oct. 1, and a full Saturday of hockey on Oct. 3
CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada’s 57th regular season season gets in full swing on Thursday, Oct. 1, with a special all-Canadian doubleheader starting with Hockey Tonight, at 7 p.m. ET, followed by the Leafs and Canadiens, and then the Canucks and Flames, at 10 p.m. ET. Also on Thursday night, CBCSports.ca will feature live coverage from Colorado as the Avalanche honour recently retired captain Joe Sakic by raising his number 19 to the rafters.
CBC kicks off a huge slate of hockey on Saturday, Oct. 3 with live coverage of 2009 NHL Premiere on CBC from Stockholm, Sweden, featuring the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues, at 3 p.m. ET. Evening coverage begins with Hockey Tonight, at 6:30 p.m. ET, followed by four more big matchups: Toronto at Washington (full network less Quebec and Ottawa), Montreal at Buffalo (Quebec region) and Ottawa at NY Rangers (Ottawa region), all at 7 p.m. ET, and Calgary taking on Edmonton, at 10 p.m. ET (full network). All broadcasts will be available live and on-demand at CBCSports.ca.CBCSports.ca also features Punjabi-language broadcasts with Parminder Singh handling play-by-play duties and Harnarayan Singh providing analysis. Punjabi-language broadcasts will also be available to Bell TV subscribers on channel 249, and Rogers Cable subscribers on channel 385. Punjabi-language broadcasts will begin on Saturday, Oct. 3 with Toronto at Washington and Calgary at Edmonton.
