Fang’s Bites Podcast No. 1 — Rogers-NHL Deal

Welcome to the premiere episode of the Fang’s Bites podcast. This is not to replace what I do with Keith Thibault on the Sports Media Weekly podcast, this podcast will post when there is breaking sports media news. The new Rogers-NHL media rights deal certainly classifies as breaking news.

In the initial episode, I talk with Greg Wyshynski of the great Puck Daddy blog on Yahoo! Sports and the Marek vs. Wyshynski daily podcast, Howard Bloom of the Sports Business News website and Steve Lepore of Awful Announcing and USA Today Sports.

In each interview, our guests discuss the following topics:

  • The ramifications of Rogers obtaining the rights to all NHL regular season and postseason games.
  • What this means for TSN.
  • What this means for CBC.
  • Whether this deal will have ripple effects for U.S. sports media rights.
  • If NBC will hire TSN on-air personnel.
  • Where Don Cherry will go if Rogers decides to go in a different direction.
  • If the length of the deal is good or bad for the league.
  • How this effects the economics of the salary cap.

Overall, some interesting viewpoints from all of our guests. Eventually the podcast will be available on iTunes but for now, you can find the podcast right here. If that link does not work, you can go here.
