HBO Pay Per View announced that last week’s Floyd Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez pay per view fight garnered one million buys. A good number.

MAYWEATHER-MARQUEZ REGISTERS

ONE MILLION PAY-PER-VIEW BUYS

Sept. 25, 2009 – NEW YORK — HBO Sports reported today that one million pay-per-view buys were generated from last Saturday’s welterweight fight between Floyd Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The fight was promoted by Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.

The one million buy total represents the highest performing boxing pay-per-view event in 2009 and generated $52 million in pay-per-view revenue. The million buys include 525,000 from cable homes and 475,000 from satellite homes. It is only the fifth time in boxing pay-per-view history that a non-heavyweight event has attained the one million buy mark. Mayweather, a bona fide superstar, returned to the ring after a 21-month absence and showed no signs of rust in scoring a dominating victory. He has now participated in two events that have reached the one million buy mark.

“Sept. 19 was an event that connected with sports fans across the country,” said Mark Taffet of HBO Pay-Per-View. “Floyd Mayweather has clearly reinforced his standing as a top attraction and fans are excited about his return to the sport.”

Mayweather vs. Marquez will be replayed this Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10:00 p.m. ET/ 7:00 p.m. PT on HBO. The 12-round unanimous decision triumph by Mayweather will be paired with the live heavyweight title fight featuring Vitali Klitschko and Cristobal Arreola from Los Angeles.

To more actively involve fans in the Fall Series, GOLF CHANNEL, Kodak and Disney Golf have created Golf’s Photo Finish presented by Kodak and its accompanying viewer promotion called the Photo Challenge. The Photo Challenge will be a series of on-screen photo-trivia questions that will begin with next week’s coverage of the Turning Stone Resort Championship and is designed to promote the network’s broadcasts of PGA TOUR Fall events and Big Break Disney Golf.

To participate, fans can visit a special Web site (www.GolfChannel.com/PhotoChallenge) to answer the photo-trivia questions and become eligible for prizes. Kodak products, Disney Golf and Golf Channel prize packs will be among the prizes available for winning participants.

In addition to the photo-trivia contest, a special “Text to Win” promotion will provide f
ans watching PGA TOUR action on GOLF CHANNEL the opportunity to win a KODAK Zi8 Pocket Video Camera. Once an hour during tournament coverage, on-screen messages will prompt viewers to text message a keyword for a chance to win the KODAK Zi8. One pocket video camera will be given away each hour of the tournament telecast.

Premiering Oct. 13 at 10 p.m. ET, Big Break Disney Golf will showcase a field of 12 men – collectively the most talented cast in series history, but individually at different stages in their careers – battling for the opportunity to fulfill the desire to play professional golf at the highest level. Shot mainly at both the Magnolia and Palm Courses at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, Fla., the winner of the 10-week series will receive an exemption to compete in the 2010 Children’s Miracle Network Classic on the PGA TOUR. The series marks the first time that a Big Break winner will compete in a TOUR event on the same course in which the series was filmed.

That’s it for the releases.
