You're Not Watching the NBA

The overnight ratings are out. Ratings for Game 3 of the NBA Finals are absolutely awful.

It’s apparent even with alleged star power of LeBron James, the country is not enthralled with the San Antonio-Cleveland matchup. The numbers show that “America’s Got Talent” won the night for NBC. Game 3 did finish second for the night, but overall, the numbers aren’t there. It’s obvious that casual fans that went to the TV set to watch Michael Jordan in the 1990’s have moved on to other things.

And the Sports Media Watch blog (link is to the right) has more. Today’s entry notes that no game of this series has drawn 10 million viewers and will most likely be the lowest rated NBA Finals in television history. NBA Commish David Stern should realize that putting most of the games on cable has not helped to market his sport.

More later.
