Having been an Assignment Editor at a Providence TV station, I’ve had to send reporters to bad neighborhoods to get reaction from angry and/or grieving parents. It’s part of the job. Most times, the reporters get what they need and they leave without incident. However, in the case of Abbey Niedzgoda of WLNE (ABC6) in my home market of Providence, she went into a bad neighborhood and dealt with an angry parent. The angry parent decided that she would throw a rock at the photographer, wield a baseball bat then sic her dogs at the crew. As a result, Abbey got bit on the forearm by the dogs.

Some background. The woman to whom Niedgoda was trying to speak had a 16 year old daughter who was shot at a graduation party. The suspect who allegedly shot the girl turned himself into police and Niedgoda was trying to get the woman’s reaction to the arrest. She at first said, “That’s good,” and that’s when she snapped.

Here’s the video of the report.

As stated by anchor Doreen Scanlon, Abbey had to get a tetanus shot and filed a police report. A warrant has been issued for the woman’s arrest. Crazy stuff.

But would it be asking a bit too much for the photog to put the camera down and help Abbey with the dogs?
