ESPN No Longer Wants Rob Parker’s Takes

by , under ESPN

Just breaking now, ESPN through a statement from spokesman Mike Soltys says it will not renew the contract of First Take contributor Rob Parker.

Parker had been on a 30 day suspension for comments he made last month about DC NFL Team Robert Griffin III. This past weekend, Parker was a guest on a public affairs program on WDIV-TV in Detroit where he pretty much dug a deeper hole for himself.

Well, about 48 hours after Parker’s appearance, ESPN has announced that it would not renew his contract to return to First Take which is a nice way to say “he’s fired.”

Here’s the statement which was tweeted in the last hour.

First Take is a show that takes a “look at me!” approach to sports television. After getting people to look at them, there’s pressure to ensure people watch. This has led to Parker’s outrageous quotes and he’s become the victim and poster child for an alarming problem.
