ESPN Statement on Terry Francona

by , under ESPN, MLB

Earlier today, the Cleveland MLB Team announced the hiring of former Boston Red Sox manager Terry Francona as its 45th skipper. It means after the World Series, Francona will no longer be an employee of ESPN. As you’re aware, after his unceremonious firing from the Red Sox last year, Francona worked as an analyst on Sunday Night Baseball with Dan Shulman and Orel Hershiser and Baseball Tonight this season.

He will continue to work on ESPN, and be an analyst for the radio side on the National League Championship Series but work as a guest analyst. He’ll be replaced on the National League Championship Series on ESPN Radio by Chris Singleton.

ESPN made its usual terse statement when it loses an employee.

“We appreciate Terry’s great contributions to our baseball coverage and we wish him the best.”

ESPN says Francona will be a guest analyst for ESPN during the World Series.
