Atlanta-New York NFC Wild Card Blowout Turns Into Lower Numbers For Fox

by , under CBS Sports, Fox Sports, NBC Sports, NFL, TV Ratings

I have not received a press release from Fox as of yet and when that happens, you know that the numbers for yesterday’s Atlanta-New York Giants NFC Wild Card Playoff game were lower than expected.

First, with a 24-2 result, people tuned out early. Second, the game was in the 1 p.m. Sunday timeslot meaning fewer viewers. Third, the game was ugly with a 7-2 halftime score. Wasn’t the prettiest game to watch.

So with all of those factors thrown in, Fox received an overnight rating of 18.9. Those numbers are up from the two previous CBS AFC games in the same timeslot. But it’s the lowest rated Fox NFC Wild Card game since 2008.

Michael Hiestand of USA Today says Falcons-Giants finished 22% down from last year’s Green Bay-Philadelphia game on Fox which was played in the 4:30 p.m. ET window.

So the overnight ratings for the four Wild Card games are as follows:

Pittsburgh-Denver, CBS — 25.9/43
Detroit-New Orleans, NBC — 19.3/32
Atlanta-New York Giants, Fox — 18.9
Cincinnati-Houston, NBC — 15.3/29

Pittsburgh-Denver and Atlanta-New York Giants improved on their timeslots while NBC’s games did not.
