This is a hard decision for me, but I am leaving Twitter. It’s a great service and it’s been wonderful to gather links, interact with people and exchange ideas. But there is a darker side and I’ve seen it over the last few days.
Don’t get me wrong, my account will remain and my blog posts will continue to go up there, but as far as making observations and interacting, I’m done. It’s too bad, because I’ve met some wonderful people there. Through Twitter, I’ve had the opportunity to meet fellow bloggers, fellow Red Sox fans and even Yankee fans all in person. The whole experience has been rewarding.
Even earlier this week, the outpouring of love for Steven Smith who passed away in a car accident on Monday was truly touching. It showed the good of Twitter and how people could get together.
However, the last few days I’ve seen some rather ugly posts. As the character Pogo said in the comic strip that bore his name, “We have met the enemy and he is us.” There were several posts almost to the point of cruelty and hate and that is not why I joined Twitter.
I won’t go into the details because many readers may not know the situation and I shall not bore you with the minutiae. Suffice to say that I no longer will be posting there full-time.
I will lurk to continue to search for links because that is the main purpose of Fang’s Bites, to provide you with the latest information. As far as interacting on Twitter, that will end. Maybe down the line I’ll return to post on the Super Bowl and other big sports events, but being on there full-time ended as of last night.
