The Return of The Sports Media (But Not Weekly) Podcast

by , under Podcast, Sports Media Weekly

Yes, for one night and one night only, it’s the return of the podcast with Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal and yours truly. For this podcast, Keith and I review the Year in Sports Media. It’s based on a list that I have yet to post here, but you’ll get an idea of the bigger sports media stories of 2010. Among the topics we discuss, the ratings increases for most sports including the NFL, NBA and NHL. We also talk about ESPN’s coverage of the World Cup. Keith brings up NBC’s record ratings for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and what it could mean for the network’s bidding for the 2014/2016 Games. We bring up the success of ESPN’s 30 for 30 documentary series and our favorite films from the network.

We broach the subject of Deadspin’s increased influence on the sports agenda and Keith goes on a rant. And we opine on the attempt of athletes to control their own message. Does it work?

Then we go to the topic of 3-D TV and I go on a rant.

Overall, it’s an action-packed podcast. I’m not sure if it’ll go up on iTunes, but if it’s posted there, do a search for “Sports Media Journal” and I hope you’ll be able to find it there.

Of course, you can listen and download the podcast

Nice to do a podcast again with Keith. If things go well, we’ll be back in 2011, if not weekly, certainly on a more regular schedule.
