This has been a crazy 18 hours. The New York Giants were scheduled to play the Minnesota Vikings at 1 p.m. today. However on Saturday, the Giants flight to Minneapolis-St. Paul was diverted to Kansas City due to heavy snows. At first, the NFL said the game would go as planned with the Giants flying into MSP just before the game and changing to uniforms just in time for the start.
However, the NFL nixed that plan saying they were concerned about the snow on the roof on the Metrodome and the game was delayed until Monday night. Of course, this brought up concerns over TV contracts, which network would air the game, where it would be seen, would DirecTV show it on NFL Sunday Ticket, what about ESPN’s game?
The decision came down from the NFL that the game would be shown on Fox affiliates in New York, Minneapolis-St. Paul and in the Vikings’ secondary market of Rochester, MN and would be made available on DirecTV. ESPN would show its regularly scheduled game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.
Then this morning, the Metrodome roof collapsed forcing the NFL to scramble to find other venues for the game. The University of Minnesota’s new stadium was ruled out because the Giants did not bring their cold weather gear, thinking they would play indoors. Plus, the weather conditions would not be conducive. And the capacity of the stadium is not up to NFL specifications.
Now, we’re hearing that Detroit might host the game as a Fox crew has its gear in place for today’s Green Bay-Detroit game.
But Chris Mortensen just reported on ESPN’s Sunday NFL Gameday that the league could move the game to New Orleans. I think he made that up.

UPDATE, 12:00 p.m.: The New York Giants have confirmed that they are flying to Detroit to play Minnesota at Ford Field. The game will be aired at 7:20 p.m. Eastern in New York, Minneapolis-St. Paul and Rochester, MN on Fox.
It will be available on DirecTV’s NFL Sunday Ticket package.
