It’s time for yet another edition of the Sports Media Weekly Podcast. Today, Keith Thibault of Sports Media Journal and I discuss the Olympics, the ratings, NBC’s continued tape delays, some of their best on-air talent and some of the worst. We also talk about Al Michaels’ failing as a studio host for NBC.
We also talk about the suspension of Tony Kornheiser by ESPN for his comments on Hannah Storm’s attire and why both Keith and I feel the actions by the Alleged Worldwide Leader were unwarranted.
And we broach the subject of Tiger Woods and his apology. Keith feels Tiger didn’t need to apologize and was in a no-win situation. I argue that Tiger was wooden and insincere and did the apology for his sponsors only.
Our guest this week is the great Dave Sims, NFL and college basketball announcer for Westwood One and one of the play-by-play men for the Seattle Mariners on FSN Northwest. We talk about Dave’s career dating back to the old WNBC-AM, the launch of WFAN and how he’s managed to remain as a play-by-play man for over 20 years. And we also brought up Dave’s consultant business, Athletisense, which teaches athletes how to deal with the media.
It’s another excellent podcast if I do say so myself.
