Last weekend’s picks were 11-5 once again. Overall record is 102-63 for an overall winning percentage of .618. Not bad.
Let’s go over tonight’s game.
Green Bay at Dallas – NFL Network, 8:15 p.m.
Yes, we know that only 35 million homes out of a potential 100 million households have the NFL Network, most of which are through DirecTV or Dish Network. The sports bars across the country should do good business. And those who watch this game will see a contest of two 10-1 teams. The only blemish for Green Bay was a loss to Chicago and the Cowboys’ only loss was to New England in Week 5. Since then, both teams have been on a collision course for tonight.
Brett Favre has been having a spectacular season, however, he comes into Texas Stadium with an 0-8 record. But this is the best team he’s brought to Dallas and that includes the two teams that went to the Super Bowl. He has excellent receivers in Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. And the Cowboys secondary does have a tendency to give up big plays.
Tony Romo is also having an excellent year at QB for the Cowboys and many have compared him to Favre in the fact he can improvise and throw sidearm, at three quarters and at his regular throwing motion.
But the big matchup in this game will be Terrell Owens vs. the Green Bay secondary. Cornerback Al Harris is expected to be assigned to TO for most of the game. But with the Packers defensive lineup banged up, expect RB’s Marion Barber and Julius Jones get the bulk of the work for the Cowboy’s offense.
Green Bay has seemingly found a running game thanks to Ryan Grant, but the Cowboys can defend the run very well.
The fact that the winner will have the edge for home field throughout the playoffs is a big prize in this game. Plus, the winner of tonight’s will clinch a playoff spot.
I think the home field will play a big factor in this game. As much as I don’t like the Cowboys, I have to acknowledge the season they’ve been having plus they’re the healthier team coming into tonight.
I’ll pick the Cowboys to win, 28-24 and in essence, pick up a two game lead on the Packers for home field in the NFC.
